I made a bit of an error today. I tried to do some work on the rear brake lines (which are a pain BTW), I took the whole rear boot section off for better access. Then a surprisingly strong gust came along and blew the boot section across the car park damaging one of the rear light clusters. After this I could see this wind was getting worse, so I gave up on work and quickly refitted the boot, in doing so I picked up the wrong bolt for the left rear turret, fired it in with an impact driver and realised I had just destroyed the rear captive nut... I would have been better off staying in bed! Anyway, could I use a pair of seat belt captive plates with appropriate bolts as a replacement? And as I don't seem to have any access holes to get in those turrets, aside from the ones behind the seat, but that's a bit far to reach from. Can I drill 120mm holes in the to like I have seen on other cars? Thanks John

Oops indeed Your ideas are fine. I cut holes in the buttresses on my car and they're essential for access because mine doesn't have captive nuts fitted. I just use nuts and bolts with large penny washers and I fitted access hatch covers meant for a boat in the holes to prevent water from finding its way in - I got these from eBay and I can't remember the exact size offhand but they are around 100/120mm. |
