Post subject:  windscreen wipers and tyres for rossa - my recommendation

Hello folks havnt been on here for a while
im still daily driving little nelly.
the problem i always had was - at speed the wiper on the drivers side would get blown
all the way to the edge of the windscreen and get stuck as it fell of the side of the car.

im running standard mini wiper motor and standard mine wheel boxes.
(i dont think the standard mini wiper motor is up to running really long wiper arms and really big blades)

here is how i fixed it:
replaced wiper motor cam/arm gear with a 90 degree one meant for a land rover.
replaced wheel boxes with brand new ones (you can do this from the inside if you strip the gauges out and have long arms)
replaced the long bendy "rack" wire with a new one.
those took all of the wear/play out of the system.

then i fitted land rover DEFENDER wiper arms (1983 to 2001). these arms are Sturdy and a nice tight fit over the mini wheel boxes.
they have the really good "universal fit" so you have a massive choice of blades.
im using 15 inch blades. ( this cleans enough of the screen for me , the wiper motor can cope).

any gotchas: yes technically a 90 degree sweep with arms and blades im using is not cleaning 80% of the screen which i think is mot fail.
but i would rather have reliable wipers that never fail and dont overstress the motor.
you can fit one giant blade to just one wheel box and use a big sweep motor cam gear. but ive never done that.

any comments?

ps i run 165 / 65 tyres there is a massive choice of 13 inch tyres. use the dunlop eco tyres . no need for 185 tyres unless you are at oulton park
ps my crazy carb heating with 10mm copper tubing wound round the carb and long inlet trumpet works really really well. never ever caused a problem
get more power and economy with it fitted
