i was running "S" close ratios in an a plus box - pointless these cars are heavy you want a lower first gear.
for the last two three years ive been daily driving with a standard a plus box
this is much much better for a road car . cos you have that low first and much better acceleration.

i want more.
so i got in touch with guessworks gearboxes and have put the very wide (rare) cluster into a spare gearbox casing that im rebuilding.
mister guess works thinks im mad .
the ratio spacing is huge .
but i will get 9% lower first than a plus so the car will get to 20mph 9% quicker
then second gear is 5% lower than standard a plus so i will get to 50mph 5% quicker.
3rd and fourth are identical to standard a plus.

evidently french people loved the very very low first in the metro van
french people love to rev small engined cars or at least they used to.
the very wide ratios were used in the metro van i think.

if you are racing a gtm rossa then you want the "s" close ratios and a low final drive like a 3.9
but for road use - wide ratios, short cam and 3.2 final drive.
when ive put my heretical box in i will report back.

i never ever see GTM rossas. but little nelly gets lots of smiles wherever she goes.
