Post subject:  My MK1 Project

Hello all,

I bought a project MK1 last year and for one reason or another I have not done anything significant with it. I have been buying stuff obviously but all it does is fill my garage up.

I finally got all of the brackets and stuff off the tub at the weekend, I decided to tidy up the front under bonnet and engine bay areas and also put in the access hatches. (One thing out of storage)
The paint work doesn't look fantastic but hey its out of sight.

Now waiting for more shiny bits to fit to the sub-frames.

The plan is to get it built and running before I deal with the paintwork too much. The engine will be an MG Metro unit at 1330 cc. I am also keen on making it a targa top, my neighbour is re-building a Porsche 914 and I like the look.
I will keep notes and if it works will post the details.

Any advice greatly received on any MK1 issue.

Mike

Hi Mike,

Good luck with the project.

It took me 4 years to get mine on the road as I was forever finding things that were not quite right, at times it seemed like one step forward and two steps back.

Thanks for the encouragement Steve. I guess as mine is a complete basket case I am starting from a bare tub again so anything wrong now is my fault!

I hope mine looks like yours when I finally finish it.

New shiny bits for the suspension is starting to arrive so I hope to have sub-frames built and then I can plumb the tunnel and get it on wheels. Sounds like five minutes work to me.

Still I keep looking at finishing off bits but I must resist..I Must!

I will hopefully post updates soon.

Mike

Thanks, I will be using lots of your ideas on my car. Why re-invent the wheel.

One of the wiper holes has been blocked off so I would like to try the single wiper route. Any Idea of the cam or wheelbox required?

Thanks,
