Post subject:  Hello Again, Hello - The excitement of Owning a Rossa Mk2

I’m back with. Rossa, following the enforced sale of my K3 a few months ago..........

Once I get home from my ferry journey and long drive north east, I’ll upload photos properly, but here’s my Facebook post as a warmer upper.

Well, I got home eventually from Belfast and the 100 or so miles from Cairnryan home were challenging to say the least;

* The front end is all over the place and I think that it is a combination of tracking and tyre pressures, so will need to find the relevant data to set it up and try again.
* The fueling is running rich initially but as the engine bay got hotter, it would not idle, rev beyond 3000 rpm and pick up was non-existent at times and the last 10 miles of my journey was a bit sphincter clenching for me.
* The brakes work, but probably need the fronts checked over due to a slight pull under braking.
* The gear change is hit or miss and its down to a combination of modified linkage and potentially hydraulics, as the hotter the car got, the worse the change became and I assume that the pipe from the master cylinder runs very close to the coolant pipes down the spine of the floor front to rear. Does anyone have a drawing for the gear linkage as it was modified for the Rossa?
* The rear clam and roof squeaked like bstrds and that was driving me nuts for 2 and a half hours, so I will need to try and get rubber extrusion or similar to stop the noise.
* The windscreen wipers are too small, for both the arms and blades - What have others used to get better screen coverage?
* The heater matrix was on all of the time - Should it not have a temperature control of some sort?

Now for the happy bits;

The car has only done 1450 miles since build and comes with lots of niceties such as;

* MG Metro 1275 12HD24 engine and matching gearbox, which has (allegedly) been bored out to 1380cc.
* A Kent cam has been fitted, but don't know what spec.
* K&N air filter.
* Microdynamics electronic ignition set up.
* Uprated fuel pump, regulator and filter.
* MG Metro Turbo 4 pot brakes and disks on front and standard MG Metro on rear.
* Spax shocks and non-Hydrolastic suspension.
* Kenlowe radiator fan.
* 13" Minilites with 185/60R13 Yokohama tyres, all with plenty of life in them.
* The Sierra Cosworth front light set up are in perfect condition thankfully.
* Nice set of cloth Mk1 MX5 seats that are in perfect condition and very comfy to boot.

Oh and it has chassis no 136SDL/Feb 90, so assume an early Mk2.

Overall, the built is pretty decent and there are minor things to be done, such as sort the ventilation system, find some Metro trim pieces to install on door handle surrounds & winder handles, a Mini or Metro standard steering wheel, as I cannot see the gauges properly and overhaul the dash binnacle, as the rev counter is sporadic at best; though, the speedo readings are spot on when tested against my GPS speedo :D

What I need now though is a copy of the build manual, so can anyone help with a copy and set up data for the front end as a starter for 10.

Hi,

Congrats on getting a Mini Rossa.

I can help on a few points.

1. I run 3mm toe in, on both front & rear and don't have any problems.

2. If you do a forum search there is a drawing of the gear linkage parts on the forum. The heat in the tunnel should not be effecting the hydraulics. My rear brake pipe runs very close to my turbo down pipe and the heat from that has no effect on the hydraulics. My gear change is very precise.

3. If I remember correctly there is information regarding the use of a single wiper on the forum somewhere.

4. The heater, now this all depends on how the car has been plumbed. If the engine is using the heater as part of the bypass circuit then it needs to be on all the time. If it is not using it as the bypass circuit then the flow can be stopped to the heater. I use a VW heater valve mounted next to the heater.

Not done much with the Rossa recently due to refurbishing my new house, but managed a few hours over the weekend to sort out the loose electrical connection around the dashboard and switch areas, and whilst I was at it, I fitted the quick shift kit I got recently to brighten things up a bit :D

I’ve got an oil leak from the rocker cover area and replaced the cork gasket but I still have a leak - should I have fitted it dry or used sealant?

Yesterday, I managed to get the Rossa to the local tyre fitters for a wheel alignment session and what a difference it has made to the handling

Whilst we had the car up on the ramps, I got my first opportunity to have a good look underneath and all is fantastic; other than needing new steering rack gaiters due to both being split and whilst I do this, I'll stick on new track rod ends for good measure.

Here is some pics of the underside;

One detail of my Rossa that I need to sort is the centre console as mine is a bit of a mess because the fibreglass has been chopped about and then covered in corded carpet and now that Rossabitz has supplied me a shiny new one, I would like to know if anyone has trimmed theirs in vinyl, as my original one was painted red but I’d like it covered now rather than painted?

If you have, was it difficult and do you have photos?

First proper run out this year and a much deserved wash, after I finally got round to fitting up and wiring the MGF interior mirror that gives much needed interior lighting and I also fitted the MG Metro steering wheel that I got recently - much nicer than the plastic grey one I had on it

Well, it’s been a few weeks since I got any time on the Rossa, what with me buying an old VW T3 camper that needs so much attention and last weekend, I managed a few hours sorting the cable run for the MG rear view mirror lighting, the cable for the aerial for the radio and wiring loom for the said radio.

I also started to trial fit the new inner windscreen surround trims to finish it all off and then decided to mount the soft top assembly using the 4 hard top header rail bolts instead of the Triumph cam levers and you know what - it actually actually works.

This morning, some bolts that I needed turned up and one of them was for mounting the FIAT Punto aerial to the header rail above the windscreen and this was duly done and I can now start putting the trim panels all back together.

I have been after a set of Honda Civic Type-R seats for the Rossa and manager finally to get a set reasonably locally and after picking them up this morning, I proceeded to fit and guess what, they look the part but are too high with no way of lowering them and I am soooooo disappointed :cry:

Well, after a long search for a decent set of Honda Civic Type R front seats, then finding that they are too bulky for fit comfortably, today, I was in my local scrappy to get a replacement Fiat aerial base and I spotted an Audi TT with a very unusual interior; therefore, after copious amounts of tape measuring, I had unbolted the whole set, front & rear and stuffed them into the back of my daily driver before I could talk myself out of it and paid the man.

I duly got them home and after removing the Mazda Mx5/Eunos tombstone seat on the drivers side, the trial fitting began and a little mod to the runners will mean that it fits perfectly for me.

An hour or so on each runner set should see them fitted and the matching back seats will allow me to trim the rear bulkhead moulding.

Woo hoo! The wee car just passed it‘s MOT today with advisories on front wheel bearings needing nipped up and slight play on steering rack at steering wheel - happy days given that the car has only done 207 miles since its last MOT :lol:

That's a nice car you have there. It's looks slightly better proportioned than a K3 and I get the impression it may have more headroom. Is the legroom any better?

More legroom and headroom than my old K3, as I am just over 6ft tall with a bit of bulk about me and always found the K3 right, especially around the footwell.

With the MX5 seats mounted really low, it is quite comfortable too with plenty of elbow and shoulder room too.

I’m 6 foot too and carrying a bit so I think we’re quite similar build yet I find my K3 a bit lacking in headroom. I notice the Rossa hardtop is a bit taller than the K3 and the windscreen is also deeper. I also have MX5 seats but I find them a bit tight so I’m going to change them. Maybe once I get the seats properly fitted etc things may feel a bit different.
