Hi Knowledgeable Mk1. folks.....
The Boot/engine vent (not sure what the correct name is?) on my Mk1. appears to be held on with two bonded in coach bolts which clamp through some off-cuts of wood placed 45 degrees across the corner openening with two wing nuts
I'm sure this is not how it was designed 
What is the correct method of attachment?
If I'm to fabricate some better fittings, is there any advantage in making it such that the vent can be prgressively opened from better hot air extraction in traffic/hot conditions? Possble with a choke type cable into the car?
How have other owners addressed this feature?
