When my wheel alignment was being checked by laser the front left wheel was found to be 7mm further back than the other side. I suspect that this is due to a deep pothole that I clobbered a while ago but nothing is obviously bent. Is this a problem that can be sorted by fitting adjustable tie bars and pulling it into line or is 7mm too much for that? Thanks.

Yes and no

Was the castor different side to side? If the castor was similar it may be that the subframe is slightly not be 100% square to the car?

They didn't actually say what the castor was and I don't think that they measured it. The difference was found when checking the alignment which they said was ok. I never thought about the subframe not being square to the car but it's a good point which I didn't think to check during the build, just using the mounting holes which were already there. 7mm seems a lot to be out but it's only 3.5mm a side which could possibly even be sorted by loosening the bolts and levering the frame round to take up any play in the holes. I'll get the castor checked next time it's near the garage and take it from there. Thanks.

Only 7mm !!
I wish my chassis had been that straight, mine was more like 2" off on the diagonals

When I made my new GRP chassis I tried to take the measurements from the original steel chassis but there wasn't a single consistent measurement side to side.

I found myself taking an awful lot of averages.
