Been trying to figure this out and haven't found a definitive answer on the forum, when fitting new shock absorbers on the coupe is it best to go for the standard height or lowered height mini shocks?

Thanks in advance
James

Hi James,
A bit of guessing here, I would think GTM's and mini's would use standard length shocks as they are pretty short already due to mini's not having very much travel before you are on the bump stops, if you are using HiLo's you can then adjust the ride height to what ever gives the best result.

I run Std height spax.

On the front the shocks just bottom out just after the std bump stops, so lowered shocks may be a benefit here if you run your car low. I cannot remember how much travel was left on the rear. One thing to remember the shorter shocks also reduce droop. Im sure the length of the shock are available online, so you could measure to see what best fits your set up.

If I was going to buy another set for my car today I would consider a set of std for the rear and lowered for the front for the ride heights I run.

Initially I'm going to run the ride height as standard but may going lower, it's going to be a road car so to a degree it has to be sort of practical / drive able. I've also opted for the poly bums tops, not sure if this is a wise move?

I'm going to go for protech shocks, the standard lengths are 332mm open and the lowers are 302mm open.

What sort of ride height are you running Neil? I've read through a few threads on here where you have experimented a lot with your geometry.

A late reply but a reply

I run approx 155mm on the rear from the rear jacking point to ground from memory. The front of the sill is about 20-25mm lower.

Rear suspension with standard height spax allow you to get the top arm to within 25 mm of the subframe and a standard bump stop is 45mm ish. So once you hit the bump stop you have approx 20mm before bottoming out the shock, and full droop is available.
