cv abs joints
I can't seem to find the information on the forum but i am renewing the cv joints (with abs rings) on the rear of my libra but i don't know exactly which cv's to pick. Is is a typical mgf 1.8 cv? Also i need to put abs ringed cv to the front, but looks like it is something different in there as well, has anyone had any experience in putting ring gear the front of there car and if so did they by chance use the same cv as the rear?

Re: cv abs joints
I think I may have to change the entire front hub assembly with an mgf unit with ring gear already attached, does the mgf front hubs have the same wheel stud spacing of 95.25mm from memory or is it 100mm

Re: cv abs joints
Rear driveshafts are dependent on the engine/box you have, if it's a K series 1.8 with PG1 then you'll need DS for that (ABS version). I just noticed you have a Honda 2.0 engine, i'd guess you have some sort of custom DS setup to adapt from that to MGf/metro?
95.25mm PCD MGF and Rover Metro/100
MGF & Metro hubs are the same. What you have on the front are the hub-end of a standard MGF or Metro driveshaft with the unused section machined off by (normally)GTM.
So if you want ABS rings on the front I think you'll need to get the outer parts from MGF ABS driveshafts and then have the unwanted portion machined off. The area where the reluctor ring would normally sit will have been machined away on your current front 'stub axles'.

Re: cv abs joints
Out of interest do you need ABS for the new IVA or something? That's a pain! Also, although as Sidewinder correctly says the unused part of the outer drive shaft on the Fronts is typically machined off, I didn't bother. I just disassembled the CV joint and left the "cup" that is integral to the outer shaft on. It doesn't get in the way of anything so unless you are particularly concerned about reducing unsprung weight you don't actually need to go to the bother.

Re: cv abs joints
The MGF ring is a separate part press fitted on from what i've seen, not sure if they can be retrofitted to a non-ABS DS though.

Re: cv abs joints
Exactly spot on neil I am trying to find the best way that all wheels read the same and abs sensor hubs is a good way for me, plus it looks standard as well. I have a Hondata traction control to fit and I am getting this done in the next few months, it almost plugs directly into the ecu. http://www.hondata.com/traction_control.htmlI found this on flee bay :- http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/201154938898? ... EBIDX%3AITI have just enquired about the studs being 95.25 which I am almost certain they are, plus it comes with new top bushes which can't be bad either. I will probably buy the same replacement new rear cv's as I remember my rears were ok but I didn't want any silly problems on the rears not reading as I sprayed them up the last time I took them off due to slight corrosion.
