I decided to contact Hi-spec braking to find out whether the electric handbrake system is near completed so i can place an order. They pretty much said it is looking maybe January/February now before they are ready to sell.

So i am now indecisive whether to stay with the manual handbrake and upgrading the rears to 4pot yellow caliper's with 310mm discs or wait until next year for the electric handbrake option and buy the same size then anyways.

Colin I have to say I never like to be the first customer for something new any teething problems and guess who becomes the development mule I suspect it depends on how the system will operate would be interesting how the system compensates for applying brake with hot pads that contract as they cool. Certain VW cable operated systems suffered fro this and as the pads cooled the car rolls away

This happened to my Coupe.
It had the Gtm handbrake with the little round (2cv pads?)

I went out at lunchtime at work, and parked up in the car park when I got back.
Then about 15 minutes later someone from the offices came and, said "your car has just rolled across the car park into a parked fiesta.".

It put a paint chip in the back of the Coupe and wrote off the fiesta!
It had pushed all the boot floor in and wasn't an economical repair.

From that day on I've always put every car I drive in gear and apply the handbrake.

Is it just me who's thinking - "what's the point?" Seems like a cool gimmick on modern cars but you've got something tried and tested there that works so why mess with it? I can't imagine it being any lighter with the cables and motor so what other benefit is there really?

Some good input here guys, I'll give it more thought whilst I'm in Corfu tomorrow for a week lazing on the beach. Obviously I won't ask the Mrs what she thinks as won't like her answer
