Hi everyone. Does anyone know what the size of the caliper spacers are for when R200/400 rear calipers are used on the rear of a Libra/Spyder with 240mm discs? GTM Part number is T1108. hole internal diameter and length. I'm hoping one of the standard sizes of stand off spacers will work.

If nobody knows I'll try a stack of washers until it lines up and then measure the stack of washers!

I'm changing from MGF to R200/400 rears to hopefully improve the handbrake operation.

The diagram in the manual shows the thickness to be equal to the thickness of the lugs on the hub the hole will be to match the size of the bolts that hold the caliper on do you have the adaptor plates t1107 ?

Thanks Mark. I do now have the adaptor plates (thanks Jamie!). I've established the holes are M10 and the threads in the caliper lugs are M10x1.25 so I'll have to get some bolts as all my M10 bolts are the more common 1.5 thread pitch.

It is now just the thickness of the spacer I need to determine. It seems it will be somewhere between 10 and 12mm thick by holding the parts together but to measure it properly will need the brackets on the uprights and the discs fixed to the hubs so the existing brakes removed. I was hoping to have all the parts to hand before starting the job. I've just freed up some 10mm thick M10 spacers from my Locost as I'm changing the front wishbones to wide track and the damper bottom bush had spacers in the clevis on the old wishbone that aren't needed on the new ones. I think a 10mm spacer and then maybe one washer should do the trick!

Hi, on mine they appear to be 13mm wide. Here is a closeup picture with rule on it and a wider shot (just ignore the rusty disc! - currently doing a rebuild on the car)

Fantastic. Thanks Nigel. I've found some on ebay that are m10 and 1/2" so 12.7mm long so I reckon they will do the job then.

IIRC I had to file a flat on one side of the spacer to allow em to fit.

Good to know. Thanks. Always like a reason to get the angry grinder out. Don't have the patience for filing (either the paperwork kind or the metalwork kind  )

Hi Sanz.

Here are some photos I took while working on my car this weekend - I decided to give the rear brakes a long-overdue birthday.

I don't know if you wanted pictures of the adapter bracket as well, but hey now you have at least some images of them.

The spacers do have a taper or flat side filed on them to clear the hub upright as mentioned by Sidewinder.

(apologies for the sizes of the images - Must remember to shink them some more next time !!)

Hope this helps.

Phil.

Anti-sieze on the wheel mounting face of the hub?

Looks like it, not a great idea as it can upset the trueness of the wheel.

I'm sure it is a temporary measure?

The wheel nuts clamp the wheel to that face and a lot of the force and torque is transferred through friction in that joint.

Guys, guys !!

Yes, a smear of anti-seize on the hub, which will get squished down when the disc is fastened with the screws, and finally when the wheel nuts are torqued down.

This is to prevent corrosion between the hub and the disc, which aids removal of the disc in future. Lots of modern cars have an interference fit between the road wheel and the locating spigot on the hub, or between the disc and the hub, which once corrosion sets in makes it very difficult to remove the road wheel or disc during routine maintenance. A smear of anti-seize goes a long way to preventing this.

The rust and paint I removed from between the disc and the hub were more likely to affect the "true-ness" of the running of the disc, you can see the amount of paint on the brackets and spacers, which were also cleaned back on the mounting faces to bare metal to ensure they were dimensionally "true" upon reassembly.

The key, as with most automotive lubricants, sealants or adhesives, is to use it sparingly, not lallop it on.

I've never had a problem doing this on my vehicles. I don't use it on the wheel nuts/bolts as that would affect the tightening torque value - which I believe for wheel nuts would be 70Nm or 52bl/ft??

What I will say is that having de-rusted, deglazed and cleaned both the discs and pads, greased the sliders and reassembled everything I believe the rear brakes are now at least playing their part !!

Thanks for the pics. All useful to see before I eventually launch into doing mine. 13.5mm spacer - hmmm, maybe a bit too much difference from 1/2"? I'm concentrating on trying to get the Locost ready for a track day on 9th April right now, which isn't easy as it is stored at a friends unit a few miles away so technically breaking lockdown rules to go there. Kind of thinking that if I end up using the Spyder for one more track day I might as well finish up the last little bit of the yellowstuff pads in the MGF rear calipers before I change to the MGZR ones so likley to be a job for mid April now.
