If from what I have been hearing and seen this could be a make or break situation for modified and classic's alike.

Hopefully the link will work and you can then go and read all about it and decide for yourselves but if this does go ahead then basically we are done for (no I don't like the heading and I'm not normally an alarmist but go and read).

If you are at all concerned then please inform anyone else on whatever forums you may be on incase they don't know about this, I know it is all over Rodsnsods and pistoheads but some others either don't know or are just saying it won't happen or it is unenforceable, the VDUB lot just say it's laughable but as I say, please read it and make your own minds up.

An E-petition has been set up on the downing street site, if you have any worries about the ability to modify cars now or in the future OR you just don't like Brussels telling you what you can and can't do in your own country then go and sign it.

Not exactly, the process to make it eu law has taken a slightly different turn and it will take longer to put in place but the main constituents of the proposal remain - that post reg mods will effectively be illegal. (that is also likely to include existing mods)
The UK has 70 meps and as they'll readily admit they get outvoted on almost everything! As some of those 70 ukmeps wont vote against the proposed legislation it will come in as there will be little to stop it. FBHVC may be able to win some concessions for historic vehicles but I doubt there'll be anything for modified vehicles!

Just added my name to this having a vested interest but I'm struggling to understand how this legislation will be applied. For intsance my last lease car had a puncture and being a Ford it was fitted with Continental tyres. I don't know whether they're expensive but even Ford dealerships, which I have to use under the lease terms, often don't stock Contis so I had to fit another make -- now the vehicle isn't standard even though any safety implications are probably only at the very limits. Is it classed as modified under this legislation?

Make and model of tyre is not that important. But it will need to be the same size and from November the same rating for noise, wet grip and rolling resistance, where these values are recorded on the type approval.
By Standard they are refering to the CofC or equivalent.

Right -- done some work in the past on safety strategies but nothing on homologation process.
