Thanks Neil thats the space I have to fit the whole rad inc brackets etc. assuming the pipes come out the back rather than the sides.
I did think the front mounted Mini one might be an option, I had a look at one at Mini Spares over the weekend but it's very small.

Thanks, did you go for the large or small version, there seems to be two types...? Do you have any photos of it fitted?

I haven't posted an updated in ages so thought I'd best take some quick snaps over the weekend. Rad is in and we just need to finish the pipe work to the engine. Waiting on some fuel hose to plumb in the tank/pump then thats done. Exhaust mounted and pipes made/welded ready, just need to sort the tailpipe once the body is back on. Dash recovered and gauges connected. Need to make sure the dizzy is set right before dropping the engine back in, sort the clutch arm, rebuild the carbs then should be ready to turn the key!

I'm loving this thread. I had to go right back to the start and re-read it all. Its a shame the early photos aren't showing now. The attention to detail and build quality look fantastic. This is going to be a really special car when its done.

Thanks, we are slowly getting there. Its the first kit car we've worked on and first restoration where we've had to make and find stuff rather than just adding to an internet basket. We are trying to keep it looking classic but keeping to some sort of budget using new modern parts here and there, like the rad. Some of the brackets we've made look a bit agricultural but thats all part of the charm I suppose and our learning curve as we go along.

Jobs completed since my last updated include... Petrol tank welded and blasted/coated again after finding a hole. Seats and belts in. Hoses and electrics sorted. Old 'rough' clutch arm welded, will get a proper one done now I know it works. Another new starter motor fitted. Pedal box mounting strengthened, it was moving about too much. Top engine steady made. Massive thanks to Mark for reconditioning the H4s.

So after all that we finally got it running over the weekend and it drives!!

Video link below, exhaust is blowing a bit but will be coming off again to sort the tailpipe once the body is on...

While the body is off and access is so good I'll take it to a local rolling road to have it setup for running in. Then we are back on with the body. The plan is to do as much prep work as we can then take it to a local garage to apply the final topcoat.

Bit of an update, we removed underseal from the inside of the bonnet, nasty nasty nasty job...

Image

Some snaps of the plan with the clutch arm, my rough template and the two new arms to chop and have welded by a grownup...

As the chassis is 95% there we've turned our attention again to the body, the doors have taken quite a while turning them from fifty pence shaped pieces of glassfibre to something that resembles something more substantial. Note the gazebo spray booth to the right. The plan is for us to do as much donkey work as possible then take it to a pro to apply the final colour.

Last update for 2019. The last few months have mainly been spent sorting the body.

Scraping more kak off the fibreglass...

Cortina eye-ball vents restored after finding rechromed rings at the NEC...

Inside engine bay painted...

Last night was the last evening in the garage for 2019, we finally stuck the top to the tub using a fancy 3M product (thanks Stu!) and 'icing' fibreglass into the bigger gaps....

The plan for Jan/Feb is to get the body in final primer ready to send off for final paint. I'm looking into maybe getting the exhaust manifold ceramic coated too to try and reduce under bonnet temperatures, anyone recommend a company to use?

Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year!

It looks great, just waiting to see if you have the struggle I was having to get the rear screen in, I will never know if it was me or the screen rubber I was using was a wrong size as I've now pop riveted my oversized version in yesterday.
