 Gelcoat Colour Match
Hi all, Does anyone know of a good colour match to the red used in the gelcoat by GTM for the Libra? It would be nice to have a spray tin to make a few small touch up repairs. Any suggestions would be gratefully received Thanks

 Re: Gelcoat Colour Match
We think the Libra colours were RAL, options:
RAL3020 RAL 3003 25082 Ford Radiant Red Cray Valley ARM 8511-362 (is specifically a gelcoat rather than a paint(?))
I think Cray Valley were the original suppliers but just a guess.
AFAIK no one knows 100% for certain.
Also colours can fade/change over time so even the exact correct paint might not match exact.

https://www.ecfibreglasssupplies.co.uk/product/gelcoat-repair-kit-29-traffic-red-ral-3020 I bought one of these a few weeks ago to do some repairs on mine. Can't comment on the match as I've not used it yet but I'll post some images when I have, maybe even in the next few days as it is coming up my list of jobs. I'll have to take a brave pill though as fibreglass isn't something I have much experience with.

Sanz if you've ever used P38 filler it's the same idea in terms of ratios and mixing etc. (both are polyester resins) Gelcoat won't cure properly in air so the wax is to go on top once applied to seal out the air. Apply proud and once set remove the wax and sand/polish to shape.

 Re: Gelcoat Colour Match
I ordered a spray tin of RAL 3020, hopefully this will be the correct tone. Will report back when it turns up. Deliveries are taking forever at the moment

 Re: Gelcoat Colour Match
RAL 3020 is definitely not the red on my Libra..... RAL 3020 is much more orange than the red l have. Back to the drawing board l guess. Wish I could go into a shop full of cans and choose one that looks close.

Drive your car to an automotive paint shop and ask to borrow their RAL swatch cards and hold em against your bodywork to find the closest. Its what I did.

Part screenshot of the images that come up from googling RAL3020. Although screens show colours differently I think what this shows is that there is a very wide range of colours that are all sold as being the same RAL number which kind of defies the whole point of defining it with a number. A few years ago I bought a touch up stick of Ford Radiant Red and that was pretty close for touching in a few small chips that had gone through to the white.

 Re: Gelcoat Colour Match
Some auto refinish suppliers have a devices that can scan a sample and spit out a tint formula.

 Re: Gelcoat Colour Match
I tried using my gel coat repair kit today and can confirm that the RAL3020 as supplied by East Coast Fibreglass is miles out, far too orange.
