Well, I am there to sign in at 8/00am

Practice (2 runs) starts at about 9/30 am - I think

Competition runs (2 or 3 No) will start at about 11/30 - 12 noon.

Break for lunch at 1/00pm to feed the marshals

Continue competitive runs at about 2/00pm

Finish about 4/00pm

Cheers

David

The weather does not look too promising at the moment - but me and my car are quite good in the wet!
I went to school in Aldridge, a very long time ago.

Bit of a thread revival. I mocked up the Mini spares bar I bought, overall I am not too impressed with the build quality but my standards are probably a bit high, I can not fit the bar on the front of the subframe due to the radiator, so went for this option for mocking up, looks like a promising avenue to look at.

Hi Neil
Looks promising!
What length are the arms? I was thinking of going down the torsion bar route, so that you have a tube with the arm welded on one end then a removable one on the other, sat in poly blocks or even pillow blocks. does the bar pass through the holes in the subframe or can you put it further back?

Bar is positioned along the edge of the floor. Plan would be poly blocks I might have a chance to look at this again this weekend.

I'll see if I can get a snap of my setup.

The bar run along the front of the subframe, just behind the tiebar mounts.
The droplinks have spherical bearings (Rose Joints©) up to the damper bolt, but in front of the damper.

be interesting to see how the KAD bar fits. Also while your there could you get a couple of measurements of the bar? Then we can compare the stiffness of it to the minispares one.

5/8” Diameter

But will measure arm lengths tonight

Edit

arms 270mm from centre of bend to centre of spherical bearing
570mm wide

Useful info so far Ken, Fits well the KAD bar. Especially for a GTM the mini spares one sits further forward and does have some possible clearance issues with the tie bars too.

Possible for one more measurement?

P2 would finish off the info nicely.

Then I can crunch some numbers.

spot on! the guess was close  .

Will try to do some calcs between all the other jobs.

Did some very quick calcs compared to my best guess for the KAD bar, its quite a bit stiffer than I first thought as its got smaller lever arms than I had allowed for.

Will do the same calcs for the minispares one over the weekend.

Done some very basic calcs

Minispares bar [full soft] compared to KAD bar [non adjustable]

Diameter
Minispares 3/4
KAD 5/8

Effective widths
Minispares 970 mm
KAD 570 mm

Effective arm length
Minispares full soft 350 mm
KAD bar 230.9 mm

Stiffness
Minispares 2235 in/lbs/degree
KAD 4216 in/lbs/degree

So on paper the Mini spares bar is 53% softer than the KAD bar. I suspected this may had been the case.
On my guesstimate calculations for weight transfer. The mini spares bar is possibly better suited for an initial starting point, but the KAD bar may be where you want to end up but it may induce some understeer on turn in at this point it may be worth looking at complimenting the front with a rear bar.

Rear bars however do bring their own issues such as reduced traction on corner exit.

Please take all this with a pinch of salt as my calculations are still making some assumptions, for example wheel effective spring rates with the cones. An item I plan to measure more accurately as time goes on.
