Bigger Wheels
Is it possible to put 14's or even 15's on a Coupe? What is the limiting factor? I think I remember 15's on a pic on here a while ago.
It might also ease a brake conversion on the back.....

Re: Bigger Wheels
Check what tyres are available. I would have thought that you could go for a lower profile, but I always think that you need to stick to the 5.5" width of wheel, or you'll get problems with fouling the bodywork.

Re: Bigger Wheels
Ta Tim, but where will it foul first? I know my old 12"ers with spacers used to foul the tub by the footwell on full lock.

Re: Bigger Wheels
I'm guessing that it will be the tub, when on full lock, from what mine looks like. Put it on full lock with the bonnet open and you'll see where I mean.

Re: Bigger Wheels
The issues with larger wheels are
Getting suitable profile tyres without the coupe looking out of proportion, How much give is in the sidewall and suspension dynamics, as generally speaking any car on 15s/14s is going to be a lot heavier than a coupe and the tyres will be constructed for this, making them a little stiff for a light weight car.
A 15 with tyre is going to be heavier than a 13 with tyre, so unsprung weight goes up and as the coupe is so light it can be a large % of this unsprung weight. This has been the main drive for me staying on 13s
Large brakes are possible on 13s I have proven that, 9 inch rear 10 inch front.
Then you have to consider how a larger diameter rim/tyre combo and off set effects the geometry, it alters everything roll centers scrub radius etc.
And of course the actual physical space you have on the car for said rim/tyre combo

Re: Bigger Wheels
Is this related to you gear/diff ratio on the 4age? I have 15 inch on the BBC and they were on it in its prevous life (fitted before I got hold of it). They run 195 45 15 tyres and they use to foul on the tub on full lock on one side? when I first bourght it, but now it fouls only on the forward most edge of the side sill due to the BBC being 6 inches wider . Its an easy fix thow on that. Stick with the 13's if you can

Re: Bigger Wheels
The offset of the wheel is also quite important. I stuck with 13" wheels but they are 7" wide and have a large offset so fouled on the tub quite far before full lock. This was fairly annoying as it meant cutting back and re-welding my already painted tub and then a respray on the entire sill and wheel well. I reckon 14's and 15's is very possible but you would have to stay fairly thin with very little offset.
