I owned a '71 much modded Cox GTM, I will try to find some pics to post, she was a J reg red coupe. Specs as far as I can remember were a 1380 cooper lump, twin reece fish carbs, minifins, 13 ins minilites and modified wide arches, I loved this car, travelled thousands of miles all over the UK and hopefully, at some time, get another to play with.

Unfortunately she came to a very sad end, just after my ownership.

Two young lads bought her from, me and within a week or so wrapped her around a steel bollard in Maidstone town centre, the police who came to "inform" my parents of the drivers demise (they hadn't changed the registration details with DVLA) thought the impact was 80+ in a 30 limit. No chance she could have been rebuilt as the bollard was sitting in the middle of the driver’s seat, I admit to a tear or two when I saw the photo's in the Kent Messenger newspaper.

I bought her from a family friend who had built and modified her i owned her for 3 years and remember seeing some pics in a box in the loft some years ago, I must dig them out and post them.

Only recently found this site and thought I’d say Hi, I’ve plenty of GTM stories, hitting flooded roads in the middle of the night and finding out how much fun they are when your caught out in a snowstorm but that's for another time.

Chatting to my boss the other day and he asked if I still had my TVR, I told him that I had sold it last Autumn but had been looking for a classic kitcar since and had just found one. Turns out that he had built a Cox GTM when he was in his 20's - he likes me now so should get a good bonus

Does he know any reg ata of the car he used to own?

Spent hours looking through boxes of photos over the weekend but still can't find the few pics of the GTM, as regards the reg it started J81???. i certainly have a front pic of the car somewhere but cant remember the full reg number, it was nearly 30 years ago!!

Sadly I only sold the GTM as my future wife couldn't reach the "pedals" and I needed to buy a conventional car with adjustable seats.

I have great memories of this super little car (little supercar?) twice hitting the same stretch of flooded road at night (at least 30-40 yards of deep water), once at speed and apart from scaring me shitle$$ we aquaplaned right over the other time a year later and much less speed the bow wave came up and over the bonnet and roof at which time i realised the side window was open! A nice iced water bath ensued, having a mid engine kept it running long enough to "bob" to the other side ..soaked.
