Re: It just stopped
I think that the relay boxes are different.I put one on a 1.8vvc from a 1.4mpi metro and it drained my battery and another did not even work.

Re: It just stopped
Things are really looking bad, I pretty sure the ECU has gone wrong , following some serious testing the engine relay YWB10022 is working fine . I can confirm that it is not replaceable by any other unit unless you race minis then you can get a SMM1 which some sort modified unit. Anyway I digress, so I have removed the ECU and spent most of the day trawling breaker yards but I was not able to locate a unit with similar number MKC 10027. So after a long search on the internet I am going to contact ECU-repairs.com, I will let you know the costs for testing the unit which they claim they can do and then hopefully repair it.

Have You spoken to Dudley at Talon ? He takes 1.4s out of Metro & 100s to install larger engines - there's a chance He may have a 2nd hand one, plus He has the knowledge to 'key' it with the car's imobiliser.

Re: It just stopped
Well I found out today that my ECU is OK this means it something else, so it is back to wiring diagrams. Looks like I will have call Dudley to see if he has any ideas what the problem may be.

Re: It just stopped
Spent a long day in garage on Saturday as all the pointers were pointing to an earth problem (certainley earths were not be sent from ECU) any way. Since I found a PDF (which I will post in engine section) regarding MEMS, which gave the pin layout of the ECU plugs, from this I was able to identify which pin was pin 29. On finding that PIN 29 did not have Earth on it the hunt began. The hunt was short, as this connects to main earth from engine loom, I disconected it from the gearbox and check continuity which was perfect, refitted the cable to gearbox and now I have an Earth on pin 29. So what have done ...................nothing...............now I have earths where they should be, if only I had ECU back i may have running car.

Re: It just stopped
Well the ECU has returned, I am fifty pound lighter in the pocket, I plugged the ECU in and started the engine . I was so happy for 30 seconds when rngine died , now not getting a spark, everything looks good I seem to be getting everything I should like voltage generated by the flywheel sensor, but no spark for the coil. So back to drawing board

Re: It just stopped
Just to give you all an update, the thing is still not running, pretty much given up with it at present. I may convert to Emerald as at least I can access the ECU to see whats going on. I may have to get an auto electrician to have look or that to somewhere like Middlesex Tuning Centre as these guy really know their stuff, but for fault diagnostic work they charge £75.00 per hour, plus I need to get to their place. The offers of help from my friends so far has been a match as I can afford the petrol for such a stunt

Re: It just stopped
Just thought that I would provide a further up date to my problems. You will be all relived to know that the K3 is running, the problem was either the wiring into the plug on ECU or the Plug on the ECU. I purchased another 36 way plug from Polevolt (an excellent company), then cut off the old plug and fitted the new one. She now runs like a dream, well not quite, as my GTI inlet throttle body mount was leaking, and I did not want to replace this with new part (£90). I put on a VVC inlet with plastic 48mm throttle body. I now need to replace the throttle cable as mine has run out of adjustment, and may be put a metal 52mm throttle body on. I notice the old GTI throttle body is 56mm, so did wonder if the 56mm would work they are a fair bit cheaper but many seem to say they are to big on 1800 and I only have 1400.

Re: It just stopped
I believe the standard manifold for a 1.4 has a 56mm throttle body take a look at metro power forum I think the mod is to fit a VVC manifold but not sure on the throttle body. http://www.metropower.org.uk/forum/category-view.aspMatty

Re: It just stopped
I'm digging up an old thread here. Been trawling through the site (& the internet) Think i've got a similar problem to the one on this thread so... Monday morning car fires up, runs for about 10 secs & then stops. Won't re-start Check it later that evening & no fuel pump or power to ECU. But car does turn over. First thoughts were ECU fried (not that please its an Emerald - £££) Now i'm thinking (hoping) its the relay pack. Anyway the question is: is there anyway i can (easily) test this at home? Or do i just buy another & try that. TIA

Re: It just stopped
I have a few wiring diagrams showing the relay box and how it connects into the car from a rave cd. It contains 4 relays one for fuel pump, starter motor, ecu control and oxygen sensor. You should be able to hear them switching over when the ignition is switched on and see them operate if you take the cover off.
Does the car have an immobiliser
Let me know if you would like me to send a copy to you but probalbly not get chance until tomorrow afternoon.

Re: It just stopped
Sounds to me like the 5AS unit has activated and immobilised the car. I had this happen once, it just triggered by itself - the car turned over, ran a few secs then stopped - then it would turn over but not start as the 5AS cuts the fuel pump.
Do you hear the whir of the fuel pump when you switch ignition on?
Do you have a 5AS fob?

Re: It just stopped
There's no whir from the fuel pump. It does have an immobiliser but when that triggers, the engine won't turn over. At the moment the engine turns over. The Emerald ECU has an LED on top which is either red or green depending on status. At the moment it not lit at all, so no power at all. Tried connecting the ECU to the laptop, but wouldn't connect (as no power). Think i'll have to get another relay pack & try that. Just wondered if i could test mine first. I've got an old (knackered) relay pack which came with the car so it has blown before.
