Well i finally got the rossa running after finding out that the new fuel pump id bought had lost its actuating arm



the bit i still havent figured out and want to fix/ return to normal is the way the ignition system is wired up the previous owner thought that it would be a good idea to make an anti theft device out of the switches featured below are these from a metro? they two that need to be down in order for the engine to turn over a shown below can anyone shed any light one whats been done?

That white wire with the spade terminal attached to the screenwash switch shouldn't be there and neither should the single wire attached to the back of the board beside the white plugs. Presumably the switch is making/breaking contact between them - have you tried joining them together to see if that bypasses the switch? I can't think where the heated rear window switch comes into it unless the two switches are working in parallel somehow but it should be possible to suss it out by tracing the circuits on the pcb, remembering that it is laid out differently on the underside - it's easy enough to remove the pcb by pulling off the switches and white plugs and removing two screws.

That white wire looks as if it has a red trace which means that it is ignition controlled (position 2 on the switch) and goes to the starter motor relay (if you have one) or direct to the starter on an older type. I think that it is only live when the key is turned to start the car. That assumes that the colour coding has been followed but, of course, any old wire could have been used....... Thats brilliant thankyou I did guess that the soldered wire wasnt supposed to be there and given its effect on the car I did wonder if it was starter related so i will try joining the wires together as the soldered wire has started to lift the pcd ribbon and is not making contact all of the time so i really would like to get rid of it

Ok well linking the two wires for the far right hand switch has removed the need for pressing that button and the starter is now on the turn of the key however the other switch still needs to be on in order for the ignition to work correctly I have taken the picture below of the underside of the pcb which shows the wires that have been added any ideas?

Haha tell me about it but this bit is working well so im not in a huge rush im sure if i have a proper look at it i can figure it out thanks for your help on the other bit though that really has made life much easier.
