Post Front Suspension and Spot the brakes....
I've had another sudden burst of excitement so want to move forward with the car instead of letting it sleep in the garage too long!

Ive taken a pic of the front shocks which arent fitted at all properly but i'm wondering how they should be done, im also wondering if theyre the right ones....

In first pic you can see the mount, a rubber bush, a big washer of sorts and a nut. Then the shock floats and rattles around them all. Im wondering if the shock should be fitted over the red bit (which that shock wont do as you can see its nearly touching the mount as it is) or if it should be pushed to the right abot and over the rubber with another large washer to stop it falling onto the red part. It just seems a bit of a weak point to mounting a shock to.

Also, how about a game of spot the brakes? Well, identifying them rather than spotting!!

I'm hoping to get the front brakes and suspension sorted over next few weeks then make a start on the back!

They look like Metro 4 pots, the same as for the vented discs but narrower. Seals, pistons, pads and single line conversion kit are all the same.

Thanks!

I think il stick with the solid discs for the time being, until i get it on the road, probably the easiest option!

Ive just been looking at hilo kits too.... while we're at it, are hilos useful at IVA time for headlight height etc?

I wonder if anyone has a pic of their fitted shocks for reference.

Yes - those are early Metro 4-pots. Worth noting that they fetch more than the vented version in the Mini world as they can be modified to fit under 10" rims on a 7.9" disc. The first vented ones used the same caliper halves as those with a spacer in the middle whereas later vented oes had the extra spacer incorporated into the casting for one of the halves.

The shocks are missing a big washer. There should be one over the pin first followed by the shock bush and then a second large washer under the nut. The thicker part of the shaft is supposed to space the shock body away from the tower to prvent it hitting like it is at the moment.

I'd also say it looks like the backets have been altered to move the mounting pin higher - maybe so that it could be run silly low without using shorter shocks? Mine is a Coupe though so not 100% on that as the Rossa might be different in this area.

Thanks for that Iain. I'll start the hunt for a fitting kit for the shocks. Im interested to hear that you think the mounts may have been modified, sounds likely as its clear theyve been welded. It is a Coupe so i'll take your word for it.

If anyone has a pic of their shocks fitted it would be great.

Yep those damper brackets have been modified to raising the upper pick up.

Ok, I am trying to upload pictures of my shock absorber top mounts - but I cannot.

I have resized the pictures so they are small but they do not load.

Any help please.

David

You'll have to upload them to a hosting site such as Photobucket, then link to them on here.

This should take you to the photos - I hope; thanks Dino.

My shock absorber bracket has been modified to improve the stiffness and the location of the washers is plain to see.
The blue rope holds the bonnet up!

Beat me to it - my Coupe is buried under a second one at the moment. It looks like the ends of the shock mounts have been cut off and turned upwards through 90 degrees with maybe square of steel added in the gap.

No idea how I go it into my head that we were talking about a Rossa though.

Hopefully better late than never - a slightly different angle o the upper shock mount but this time a standard one and the angle should make t easier to see where the first one pictured seems to have been modified.
