 How heavy is yours?
Took the front end off mine last night to have a bit of a look see, couldn't belive how heavy the front ( bonnet, wings, bumper) end is! Are they all like this? I know mine has got huge arches but still! If i remember right Dean (previous owner) reckoned the car was about 840kg? sound right?

 Re: How heavy is yours?
Im amazed its that light There is ALOT of tube in your car. The front end of a Regular Coupe is something like 16kg to 20kg, I know that yours has wide arches, and is not how it left the factory, but its also of the not... so... well... err.... "Popular/favored".... looking updated shape, that Paddy and Peter marketed (how very 80's) . I fact yours is the only one I have seen in the flesh. Total Coupe weight is a hard one to answer really... Cox G.T.M = 600>>620 kg's is average Thinner gague steel and no rear spaceframe GTM Coupe= 650>>750 kg's is average A Series GTM Coupe= 680ish>>875 kg's is based on toyota, honda and vauxhall engined Cars i have seen

 Re: How heavy is yours?
Thanks for that, not sure i'm happy with the fact mines the only one you've seen in the flesh! Think i will keep an eye out for some replacement panels, at the end of the year the car gets outlawed for rallying due to MSA rule changes, ( not a mass produced car!! ) so next year i will just use for sprints and hillclimbs, so it will be on a diet over the winter! Is it a case of just dropping on some second hand panels? or is there someone that can make new?

 Re: How heavy is yours?
From memory Dean's coupe is unique in so much that it is wider and longer, very much a custom build based on the original. You might be better of destroying your existing panels making a mould........

 Re: How heavy is yours?
My Coupe weighed in at 735kg when first finished in 1997. It was built for road use with many non standard extras, so is fairly heavy but was still fun to drive.

If you look at the square hole below the light bowl area youll notice that the front end is one of the alternative front ends Before it was heavily modified I agree thow mold it make a nice light weight one

I had thought that i would end up doing that, the panels have seen quite a bit of action over the last couple of years since the photo above was taken and its now covered in orange white and chrome tiger stripes I couldn't get over the weight in the front end but it has been modified and repaired , its got fibre fill rivets alloy plate body filler and lots of wood!

I weighed my bare Coupe correct front it weighed 20Kgs from memory. my new carbon one is alot lighter, but yet to be finished, I predict that might come in as little s 10-12 kG when finished bare. Neil

 Re: How heavy is yours?
How wide is your front end from outermost edge of the top of the arch to the outermost edge on the outer side I'll throw a tape over the BBC (as its known) and compare The only picture I have where you get some idea of the two widths, the BBC and a standard width Cox (I still dont think that its as wide as yours darren) big-blue-coupe-t802.html

 Re: How heavy is yours?
I weighed my GTM yesterday at Mallory Park and the car only with a Honda D16 A9 engine weighed in at a beefy 659kg.
My principal competitor (this was a sprint) has a Sylva Striker with 170bhp in a car that weighs 406kg = 419bhp/tonne compared with my 197bhp/tonne (assuming my engine still produces the 130bhp Honda rated it at). I finished second in my class behind a very fast Radical but ahead of the Sylva. My guess is I won't be ahead of him for long!

I would imagine you have an aerodynamic advantage over the Sylva though. Neil?
