 Tiebars etc...
Afternoon all, now I have my wheels and tyres the way I want them i'm struggling to get the car tracked. My local tyre bay checked the tracking and reported the front nearside camber is way out, and not currently adjustable. I have been tweaking the toe settings and have it running straight and cornering quite niceley but the steering doesn't centre itself and is generally a bit lifeless. So I reckon I need to invest in some adjustable tiebars and lower arms, plus new bushes etc. The suspension on my coupe appears to be bog standard mini with hi los on the front being the only thing changed from standard. Not being blessed financially at the mo I'm looking at the cheapest set from mini spares of adjustable tiebars, arms and bushes and is about £80. However usually once I start undoing things on this car more problems are often revealed. Anyway does anyone have any advice or things to watch out for...? Is it a simple job to swap these parts over?

Pretty straightforward to do, the only possible fly in the ointment may be the bolt that holds the tie bar to the bottom arm is sometimes seized in the arm. A good soak in penetrating oil may be in order, a smear of copperslip when putting them back for future insurance!!!!

 Re: Tiebars etc...
Thanks for that Tim. Out of interest is there anything to be gained from fitting adjustable tierods to the rear...?

Not really. Since the rear wheels don't steer (ha!) the amount of caster makes no difference.

No they're not supposed to steer but adjustable tie bars on the rear can be used to square the footprint if you want to go the extra mile

I think you'll find the "Ha" is more sarcastic than ironic For the few who may not be aware, the rear wheel steer problem is the unwanted movement caused by the rubber in the suspension, replacement by poly bush at least or solid sperical (Rose) joints is highly recommented to help eliminate it....

 Re: Tiebars etc...
Thanks for the replies. I reckon I may have a bit of rear steer going on. Will try replacing the bushes to see if there is any improvement...

 Re: Tiebars etc...
Any idea what the ball joints are on the rear track control bars - I'm assuming that they are standard mini items as per what is fitted to the steering rack? Are they the same both ends?

L/h thread one end, r/h thread the other. Seem to remember fitting something like that on an Austin A60. No doubt someone will identify them for sure.
