 Coupe radiator
Hi , i spent some time looking for a radiator to replace the ageing one in the coupe, after much looking at sizes etc i opted for a new radiator and fans , it is of the bar and plate type for a sierra cosworth , photo below, i have compared it to the one fitted at present and it is nearly identical in size (it may be a few millimetres shorter in width) the main difference is the bottom outlet is facing the driver rather than poking out to the right , it looks like the outlet will just clear the bonnet support and would save the pipe being in front of the wheel. Will try it and post a pic , and see how it fares keeping the temperature right .

 Re: Coupe radiator
I've just bought one of these as it is a perfect fit between the frame that runs forward from the front sub frame that holds the existing radiator: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/120708910692?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_2007wt_1199The inlet and outlet are 20mm and half way up on both sides so I have cut my stainless pipes back and then used some of this to plumb it all thogether: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/280562493129?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2649#ht_3941wt_1189It is then topped off with a pair of these: http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/170705440676?ssPageName=STRK:MEWNX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1497.l2648#ht_2304wt_956

 Re: Coupe radiator
20mm inlet and otlet thats a little small I feel.
The rad on my coupe is a simular size to the allegro one I took out, and is aluminium with plastic tanks, from a vauxhall combo van, seems to do the trick nicely even on hot race days at the drags.
The in and out are postioned like those posted by realscamp and are 32mm

 Re: Coupe radiator
I agree - wasn't too happy about the 20mm in and out so have been looking for an electric pump as well to boost the flow a bit - that said I'm only running an A series so heat generation is not too bad.

 Re: Coupe radiator
Hi Mr Mac , it may be fine with 20mm on the a series , in fact im sure Dion has used smaller pipes than this and finds it helps with flow, the reason im upgrading is because the old im guessing Allegro rad ? was on its last leaking legs , and coz i will be putting the honda engine in this car so im figuring it will be ready this end when i have constructed my subby and fit that. To be honest i dont think its a weight saving excersize , it does seem quite heavy , but keeps a cossie 500 cool so im guessing should be a breeze for this, the brackets either end that stick out have to be cut off , it should be fitted by wednesday so will post a pic . The best bit was the price , on ebay was no more expensive than some standard rads. I did look at many rads and it is actually quite a hard size to find , providing the bottom outlet clears it could be a viable alternative for coupe owners. cheers

 Re: Coupe radiator
What size pipes are you using Neil ? im thinking of staying with the stainless pipes already fitted to start with , but if they are not up to it will be changed too. are you using an expansion tank at each end ? one for the engine one for the rad ? cheers

 Re: Coupe radiator
25mm pipes front to rear.
Out of engine to swirl tank, 32mm mounted high,
rad cap to expansion bottle
out of tank to rad 25mm, stepping to 32 mm at rad.
Rad back to engine 25mm with suitable steps to 32 mm at engine and rad, no expansion tank at the Rad. I actually use the standard civic bottom hose to get from the engine down to the tunnel.
Seems to work, 10 inch fan on rad, does come on in traffic on a hot day I usually force it on early with my manual switch if in traffic, the water flow on tickover is quite slow due to the length of the cooling system so she slowly warms up.
Will try to answer you PM tonight.
Neil

 Re: Coupe radiator
Hi Neil , thanks for that i appreciate it was quite a detailed pm ,on the cooling front is there a reason to step down ? or just what was fitted originally ? I will have a measure up as it would be nice to keep the already shaped stainless pipes. I am thinking of fitting both fans but putting one on a pot and running it from a manual switch so it runs very slow , and the other on a stat so the fan comes comes on if the engine temp reaches a certain level, and if i diode the first fan that could then be full power too, but will see if i need to first, im wondering also if two temp gauges would be a good idea to monitor the front temp and the engine temp , im sure the koso speedo i am fitting has two temp gauges , so may try to see how the thing is working ... or not as the case maybe. Looks like the fitting has to be delayed until thursday as i have now become involved in helping someone on wednesday... cheers simon
