Wonder whether any one can help????? After a bit of info , is it possible to fit a K sereis engine in a GTM coupe..... If so are there body tub modifications involved as well or just subframe ..... also what gearbox is fitted the R65 (rover 200 400 Metro 1.4 - 1.6) or PG1 (MGF 1.8)

I suspect there is room with a heavily modified subframe - after all people are managing to fit them into minis.

The PG1 gearbox, though available with LSD which would be nice, is bigger and heavier (and more reliable) - but probably not required for a light car like a coupe - don't have the web address to hand but try the 16valve mini board, lots of very usefull info.

There have been several K series conversions, I think they have all been 1.4, rather than 1.8. I think the metro box is the way forward. I tried to do it with the PG1 box and found that the exhaust would have been about 2" from my elbow. So if you are going to go K series, what is the reason? Because if it is power, then you'd be better of either using a Vtec lump, or turboing you A series. Both would be a better plan in my eyes. :D

I have an old club newsletter with a Coupe converted to 1400K series, all Metro stuff i believe. The guy moved the subframe back by an inch or so amongst other things. If anyone's interested i can bring it to Stoneleigh.

Somewhere in my workshop i have a PG1 box, flywheel and starter to suit, driveshafts too, in fact all the stuff needed to convert to PG1 if its any help to anyone :lol:

I now the installation would be tight as the engine is installed at angle forward, but i thought it was possible. I takre it that the installation of the mg 2.0 turbo engine is the old maestro montego engine. As this had no forward angle tilt. Mind you would it not be possible to fit that gearbox to the k series and mount the k series without the angle to gain more clearance of the exhaust from the rear of the body tub.

There is at least one other on this sight, who has had a K series in their Coupe.........Cue Stuart. :wink:
