Post Windscreen and rear window fitting??
Got my new window seals and locking strips and was thinking about best way to install the windows. Is it best to place the rubber on the car and then fit the glass into the opening, or the other way round? I have seen the windows installed using a small cord placed inside the rubber that is installed and taped on the glass, then that cord is then pulled out to move the lip over the edge of the car.. Is one way easier than the other for the front windscreen, and for the rear window? Not quite ready to install the windows, but thinking about it!

The pros put the rubber on the glass then use the cord to pull the rubber over the body flange.

Have you checked the fit. Sometimes the windscreen aperture is cut on the large size. I had to use oversized screen rubber.

I matched the new rubber to the old and they are the same size..so should be good there.. just looking for some tips on installing thee glass, as have not done this before.. getting them out was easy as the rubber was so brittle that I had to cut it out!

I went for rubber in the hole and placed the glass into it working from the bottom up.

West, how did you work the lip up over the glass?

A mixture of cord, plastic wedges, I seem to remember using body filler spreaders as well to manipulate it.

Some soap was usefull for getting the ruber to slide over the glass too.

Mine can be a right bugger as I reglassed the opening to suit a smaller section seal.

Well I now have the rear window and rubber installed.. but having fits trying to get the locking strip installed.. I can get it about a foot or so and then I seem to move the tool wrong and it slips out.. then I have to go back and start again.. :( :( at this rate I'll be dead before I get it all the way around. I think what may be happening is the rubber seal is getting pushed back as the lexan window flexes, so the tool is then popping out of the rubber channel as I try to push in the locking strip.. any suggestions on how to do this? Maybe someone on the inside holding the rubber and window from moving? .. Is it possible to start again once the tool has slipped and then go back and push the locking strip in after the rest is installed.. . How have you done yours? :? :?

I lubed the slot with wd40, this helps the tool go round the rubber. it was still a difficult job as the whole window and seal kept wanting to pop through the hole into the cab.

the rear window was one of the hardest windows ive ever refitted to any car, and ive donw hundreds of screens over the years!

I was sweating like a pig when it was done!

Well after 2 hours with one of us inside and one out we got 3/4 of the job done before we gave up for the night.. just have one final corner and half of the lower part.. used lot of soapy water, (nothing like a good lube job!) just hard to keep the seal flat while trying to push in the locking seal ... more to come tomorrow night..
