Hi all.
I have been offered an GTM Coupe with 1275 A-Series running gear. everything is there but needs a complete strip down and rebuild as not been on road for at least 10 years,, the asking price he wants is £600 ,,Now i Knoew A-series Engines inside out back to front as i have Minis,Metros etc,and I also Have my Fully Restored 1972 Austin 1300 GT ..

So Is the GTM Coupe worth it

Have a really good look at the sheet steel chassis.

Check it out for structural corrosion.

Hi Ady
That sounds like a good price to me!
As has been said already, have a good look around the chassis. Have a good poke at the sills, floorpan & the front bulkhead. If you know the A-series engine inside-out, then the rest is mostly cosmetic & parts mostly fairly easy to come by. There's a member on here, 'Steve Shield', who has recently acquired the rights & moulds to the coupe, & can now produce body panels and other parts.
I had a coupe about 25 years ago & although i have a Libra, i still have a soft spot for the coupe. If one came up for sale near me at that price, i would find it hard to resist (although the wife may not think the same  )
Let us know how you get on.
Sven

PS that looks a very tidy 1300 GT........but do you ever get the urge to give it a dam good thrashing with a branch from the nearest tree if it doesn't start...

Hi Guys . thankyou again for replies..

right i got it mixed up with model of car Its not a Coupe ,its a MK2 Rossa (my bad)
I went and had a good look at it last night ,seams all there just need stripping and cleaning engine needs to be stripped and rebuilt ,1275 mini engine,, both subframes need to be stripped and re done, other than that it looks all there and no cracks in fibreglass on either top or bottom.,, have added few pictures,as you can see it need a good power wash as been sat in a Garden for over a year..

Goody! Another Rossa  When you say that it hasn't been on the road for 10 years then presumably it's registered and you have the paperwork - is it correctly described as a GTM Rossa on the V5?

There are a few parts made specifically for the Rossa. Most parts are Mini or Metro but things like, for example, the side and rear windows, LH threaded ball joint for the double ended tie rod that locks the steering on the back and the hand brake cables were supplied by GTM. Most of what you need is still available from Alan Britton at Rossabitz as are build manuals which list where parts come from. The car was designed to use Mini front subframes but others can be fitted from the likes of Z Cars if you want to change the engine from the A series but a lot of bodywork butchery is also needed because of the lack of space between the rear buttresses on the tub. You can see some builds in the projects forum on here and mine is there as well

Thankyou for heads up Raymond. think i will stick to keeping it A series running gear (stick to what ou know as they say) I have tried to find contact detail for Rossabitz but no luck. need a build manual to start with.

I have now got the car home today and gave a good wash and check over all seams there from what i can see ,needs a few patch up repairs in the rear valance panel but other than that all seams good. body was made in Jan 1990 but registered on a 1987 plate .Logbook also say Rossa GTM ,so no problems there. does that mean it can got to a normal MOT station if on a D plate?

Thanks again

Regards Ady :D

Glad to hear that you have the car home. The fun starts now! You should be able to take it for an MOT in the usual way - no IVA hassles for you

Alan at Rossabitz can be reached on 01733844839 but he's never usually too far from here either.

Looks like its all there.

My first car was the MG version of the GT you have. It was a gr8 car. Then it failed its MOT on a subframe. I sold it to a chap who wanted the 1275 engine (twin carbs with a lot of torque lol). Wonder what that car would be worth now. I paid £12 for it in 1983

I have just brought my first A series engine since. A 1275 Rossa Mk2. Hope to collect it next weekend.
