Rossa Instrument Panel
The speedo on my Rossa II has always been way out so, when the cable went, we decided that the cost of a new one would be better put towards a decent speedo. We went for the Smiths International gauge and, while we were at it, decided to fit a matching tachometer.
These fit the holes left by the old gauges, but the circuit board needs a fair bit of modification to keep the existing fuel and temperature gauges and warning lights. After a bit I got bored of sitting with the circuit board and wiring diagram, tracing the wiring. So I stuck it in the scanner and coloured it in on the computer.
I thought I'd post it here just in case it's of any use to anyone else.

Re: Rossa Instrument Panel
Thanks, Raymond.
It wasn't as easy as I thought it would be to retain the existing fuel and temperature gauges and warning lights. You can't refit the perspex cover as the bezels of the new gauges get in the way, so I had to fix a perspex cover behind the existing panel, which involves lots of cutting and adding bits.
Do you think it would be worth putting some sketches on here of how I got round it?

Re: Rossa Instrument Panel
PS: I used parts from two different spare instrument pods that I had lying around in the garage, so now have lots of left-over bits. If anyone needs any spares then let me know. I'll be at Stoneleigh on Monday and will bring them along.

Re: Rossa Instrument Panel
Thanks, Neil. Now all I have to do is get a signal wire through from the engine compartment to the dashboard - got a felling that's going to be the most difficult bit

Do you think it would be worth putting some sketches on here of how I got round it? You could always put some sketches up if someone asks for them - it might be a bit of hassle for nothing otherwise but its very good of you to offer. When I did mine I fitted Smiths fuel and temp gauges (pics on my thread in Projects) which were easy to do and removed the original ones from the panel, covering the holes with a blanking plate from another model of Metro. Apart from the speedo and tacho the only things I use on the panel are the warning lights for main beam and indicators and it would be easy to change those too. One of the things I meant to do during the build (and forgot ) was to run some spare wiring from the engine bay and from the front to the dash - it would have come in handy several times already......

Wish I'd done the same while the engine was out. I'm hoping that I can use the redundant speedo cable to pull the wire through

Quote: That's not a bad idea! ..... that's what I thought Raymond, but ....... Not sure what went wrong. The cable pulled out really easily with a nylon cord attached, which I was going to use to pull the wires back through. But, when I tried, for some reason they wouldn't budge. So I ended up with the back off the car and missed Stoneleigh.

Re: Rossa Instrument Panel
Boogah Easiest way now is probably down through the tunnel with the coolant pipes etc. You could always feed a plastic tube through first and then feed the wires through through that so they're protected.

I was going to get rid of the heater valve cable anyway, so used that to pull the cables through. Pulled a length of plastic coated garden wire at the same time, so I've got something to get cables through in the future. Wish I'd thought of your idea of the pipe though.
