Post Recently acquired GTM Rossa K3 help needed please
having recently acquired a GTM Rossa K3 i have a few issues to solve if anyone can help.
1)The bonnet catch is not holding and I need a decent internal catch

2)The Brakes require a lot of pressure has anyone any ideas to improve this

3)Handling above 60 MPH the car snakes is it possible to remedy this

I am new to all this (did have a Davrian in my young years) so hoping anyone who can help me solve the above issues i would be very grateful.

If the bonnet catch Front or back is not holding then may need adjusting ,lubricating or the cable may be rusted.

Hard brakes, are you comparing them to a modern car?
When applied do they work?
Stop in a straight line? possible servo leak, so not getting servo assist, hose to servo broken/ perished disconnected.

Swerving over 60mph, how old id the car? how old are the tyres? how knackered are the suspension bushes, track rod joints, steering rack, play hub joint play?

subframe mounts?

Anything bent?

Is it on the road??

Hi,
I recently bought a K3 but mine is a long way from being driveable.

The front catch is difficult to see if it is working correctly, as it is hidden when the bonnet is shut. Mine looks like a production car bonnet catch put at an angle. you could put some masking tape over the catch plate and gently lower the bonnet shut. That way you might be able to see where the pin is hitting. and align it if needed. I agree with Bubbles, make sure is well lubricated so that the release plate moves easily and fully. It should then lock unto the pin. You could also listen for the "ping" when you close the bonnet (just like a production car) as this is the plate popping in once the pointy bit of the pin has passed underneath.

Brakes should be good. as the car is lighter than the donor. Has it stood for any length of time? I recently had to change the Callipers on my Mazda as the pistons had seized. I tried to fit new pads, and it was difficult (read: broke a smaller G-clamp and had to buy a bigger one) to push the piston back. When it was reassembled, the brakes were smoking hot after a short run which confirmed the brake piston was sticking. Hence the New Callipers. Do these have single or dual (opposing) pistons? Mazda's have slide pins which also need to work by hand.

Handling I haven't got that far :) But I will be reading any replies. :)
I did have an A-series Metro which my brother bumped in the front left corner. It was all fixed by a dealer on insurance but when you went over a rise it pulled left, and a dip pulled right. Turned out to be the subframe was bent so one wheel was further back by 1cm.

The front catch on mine was the Metro boot lock, I replaced it with a new one and then ended up fitting pins anyway. If I can find it it will be going begging.

Strip the brakes, make sure all the calipers are sliding on their pins and the pistons go in and out smoothly. Make sure you are actually getting vacuum at the servo end and that the seal where the pipe enters is sound. Then fit a set of decent brake pads, Mintex or Ferodo and change the brake fluid.

If it's snaking at speed you have an alignment problem, it could be misadjusted or the various bushes and ball joints could be past their best. A visit to a specialist should be on the cards there, not KwiK Fit....
