Welcome.

Is the pump definitely running?

Does the car have a 5AS immobiliser and did you disconnect the battery? You might need to do a re-set if so (press the pliper 4 times in a row I think).

Reset the knock sensor or bypass it if you have one?

Bob.

A few things to check (from bitter experience on my Spyder following an engine change!)

Depending on the way its wired you may have an inertia switch - this kills the fuel pump supply - check and re-set if required (simple one so start there!!)

The fuel pump is controlled by a relay in the black box multi relay unit (in engine bay) - check the wiring on that is correct.

As others have mentioned, one of the circuits the 5AS kills is the fuel pump circuit. the 5AS breaks the earth to the fuel pump so you can actually bypass that one and directly earth it. Re-setting the 5AS as described previously is worth a try.

Was the fuel tank/pump compatible with your injection system? If you have multipoint injection and fitted a tank/fuel pump from the single point injection version you probably won't have enough fuel pressure even if the pump is spinning (would have thought it would start/idle though, just would splutter/misfire when you give it some beans.)

Thanks for the replies and the advice. I will start checking these items. I don't have an immobiliser on the car that I'm aware of (my friends GTM does) and I have never had a fob etc to start the car with.

To give you a bit more info - when I turn on the ignition I can hear the new pump I fitted priming (by priming I mean it runs for a second or two then cuts off). When I then turn the key it doesn't want to start however. As far as I can see I have ordered the correct tank, and it was listed as being for an injection car.

Should the pump run continuously with the injection on, or is this "priming" function correct? My friend has a Stratos replica with the Afla V6 and I know on that car his pump doesn't run at all with the ignition on, as it needs the flap in the inlet plenum to open on cranking (signifying that the engine is running). I was wondering if these cars have the type of system? Could it be something like this that is perhaps stuck open/closed?

Hoping to get a look at it this weekend.

Both single point and multi point are injection systems but the SPi pump isn't man enough. (should start though?)

Yes, the pump should run for a few seconds when you turn the key to the ign on position, it should establish fuel pressure in the injection header rail and then cut off due to pressure being reached so that bit sounds good. That suggests that the inertia switch is correctly set (or not present) and the relay is working. Could try pulling out an injector and getting someone to crank it while you check for fuel squirting out. If there is then fueling isn't your problem so ignition probably is.

What mems system are you on? Have you got the dizzy or the coil packs on top?

Disconnect pipe at fuel rail place in jar and crank to make sure you have fuel and air is expelled from fuel pipe

Thank for all your suggestions guys . The problem turned out to be fuel cut off switch . Which had to be reset.

Always good when its a simple one. I know a few people who have had the inertia switch pop from driving over pot holes (or a spin over kerbs on a track) so its good to know where to find it and how to reset it.
