Any one know of a direct replacement up grade radiator for the metro rad. My one looks to be a single core unit and when giving it a thrash up a motorway the temperature tends to climb rather high. Driving around town or short bursts of say 10 miles at a constant high speed is fine it is just when you go on a long journey at speed it creeps up a bit too much. I know Malcolm has had one specially made but I would rather get an off the peg item if at all possible. The thermostat is working fine and the fan kicks in so I can only put it down to either slow pumping of the water to and from the rad or the rad isn't man enough for the job. Were there any metro's made with larger/more cores?

The early twin pass Metro rads are more efficient than the later ones. I was cooling my Mini Marcos racer with a Metro rad and I had to blank off some of the core with tape to prevent overcooling.
Maybe it's water flow that's the problem rather than the rad itself.
I fitted a Davies Craig electric water pump to my Coupe to prevent this.

I believe the rad is out of a later metro as it is the K3 engined Rossa but as the registration on the car is not relevent to the year the kit was made or the year of the donor (by the looks of it) I'm unsure as to exactly what year any of the parts are (as evidenced by the useless subframe mount I just purchased that looked right on the diagram but was in fact hopelessly wrong in size, too long:evil: )
I had thought of an electric pump as an addition to the existing but then realised that it would be pulling or pushing against the original one so probably wouldn't get much more flow due to the restriction, however I would rather not go full electric as I want to keep things as simple as possible and be able to maintain it wherever I end up. (I have other kit cars that I have gone stupid on and have taken years to get back on the road as I keep changing my mind and ideas, this one was done really quickly and I want to keep it on the road as long as possible. There will be a bit of a change over a couple of months this winter if I get the time, to sort out the front and rear clams and possibly the bigger wheels and tyres but that is another story alltogether).

The original water pump doesn't restrict the flow of an electric pump much. It's only an impeller, not a sealed pumping device.
The only thing to watch is that you don't let the pump switch on till the thermostat opens otherwise it's pumping against a closed system.
