Post Chops K3 part 1
I thought I'd post to let other members know I'm still here and I still have my K3. A change in circumstances forced me to put the car away until I had the time to spend on it. Work on the car will be sporadic I'm afraid due to my job but I've had a couple of days on the electrics so that's a start I suppose.

The wiring harness is a mess. I’m currently stripping out all the superfluous Toffee from the previous cat II alarm install and I’m going to send off the ECU to have the inhibitor signal deleted.

Hi Simon,
That used to be mine! I bought it from the original builder (from Worksop) via the factory in 1998 and sold it in 2016. The colour (let's call it 'magenta') reminded the builder of his favourite flower! I chose to keep the respray it could have done with in the bank so to speak. The MGF gear shift and Northlight s/s exhaust were both good upgrades. To get the ride height correct front to back at the correct pressure we had to put a spacer in the front trumpets, and then the interlinked suspension worked well. With the hardtop off there is a bit of scuttle shake so I preferred it with the hardtop on. It went well with the 1.6 MPI engine (the ECU is a 1.4 MPI that's been re-programmed) and the exhaust note was lovely when pushing on.
In having a tidy up last week I found the proper pull down clips I bought to secure the hardtop and they're yours if you want them. Any questions about the car feel free to ask.
Steve

Hello Steve,

Thank you for that information. I was going to send the ecu in to be checked over but I decided to see if I could sort out the wiring harness first and yesterday I managed to get it running. It sounds really nice so I’m going to leave it as it is for the moment and see if I can get it on the road by the end of August. I’m going to bond a sheet of plywood into the floor before I put the seats in as it seems a bit lacking. I will probably have to use it with the soft top as I find it hard to get into with the hardtop on. The doors don’t open very wide either which doesn’t help. Those pull down clips would be much appreciated though and I’m happy to cover any costs. As for the hydragas suspension, I think I’ll replacing it for adjustable coil over shocks and I think that will get done before the car goes back on the road. I haven’t asked yet but I’m hoping that Peeps still makes the brackets for the conversion.

Hi catsam. Thanks for that, I'll give Peeps a shout. I've no plans to change the engine as such but I have a 1.8 Freelander standing idle in the yard. The plan was to sit the Freelander body on my old 300 Tdi Disco chassis but the way things are going with diesels it might not happen. If I decide to do it then the engine may end up in my K3. A 2.5 V6 would be nice but nowadays I'm not as enthusiastic about beating myself with a big stick as I used to be!

Anyway I've sorted out the wiring harness and the engine runs. Everything seems to function ok though I won't be 100% sure until I have the clams properly refitted. Does anyone have any ideas on how to get the doors to open wider? New longer door hinges perhaps? I'm badly arthritic and I do struggle to get in and out of the purple peril :(

I've spent this weekend sorting out the back brakes. The previous owner had started replacing the Rover 200/400 rear calipers for MGF units but didn't get much farther than overhauling one MGF caliper and releasing the old ns unit from the hub. Everything was there though apart from new discs which will be with me this week. After a trial fit I can't say I was too impressed with this conversion. The handbrake cable brackets are just wrong for this as the MGA calipers are supposed to fit to the rear of the hub, not the front so after a bit of trial and effort I made new brackets to alter the direction of the cable.

Post My K3 otherwise known as the Purple Peril.
I can't post anymore on my original thread as i just get a blank screen so i'll start again. The rear brake discs and pads are fitted though I am going to remove the calipers again for painting. They will be painted black as this is the colour I consider most mechanical stuff should be.

On to other matters and I decided that the floorpan isn't really substantial enough so I've cut some 12mm thick plywood panels and these will be bonded into the floorpan as soon as i have the opportunity. I'll post some pics tomorrow of the ply panels in situ. MX5 seats which came with the car will be fitted after I've made some suitable box section subframes.

Discs and pads fitted at the back. I will be stripping it all down again for painting but for now I’m happy that it all fits together. I’m having trouble posting pics now. It’s telling me they’re too big! There was no problem before so why now all of a sudden? Sorry to complain but this platform really is ropey!

Try resizing you pics the limit has always been there just maybe you sneaked under the limit. The limit is set to 1mb

The limit is to stop people butting on huge pictures that waste bandwidth of the forum, that way we keep it running smooth and fast.

I also hate it when huge pictures are posted and they do not fit on the screen and you have to scroll around to see what is happening.

I have looked into you old thread but struggling to find why it will not accept replies

Neil

Hi Neil, on my old thread when i hit post reply I get a blank white screen. It’s the same on my phone or my iPad. Not tried it on my desktop yet though as I rarely use it now.
I appreciate you conserving bandwidth but I’ve never had a problem with posting pics until recently. I’ve no idea how to resize them either.

You may find your desktop works.

Interestingly I tried from my laptop to reply to your previous thread and got a http 500 error yesterday, tried to reply today from work and all is fine. And also from my phone and its worked.

Your previous pics were approx 0.75mb so under the limit.

Resizing many ways to do this. One method on your laptop, is open in Paint in the image menu click resize, select pixels and on the horizontal type 640 and providing you have maintain aspect ratio ticked all should resize nicely. Save and upload.

Neil

How strange Neil. Both your posts are here and I can post too now. However I’ll continue the rebuild on the other thread.

Thanks for your help.
