Post Cox GTM chassis no: 20 Rebuild.
After 15 years in the garage, NDF227F Cox GTM chassis no 20 is being moved to start its total strip and rebuild. I'll post some photos of how it goes as I enjoy seeing other rebuild photos on here and hope that others might do the same.

Nice! Looks fairly unmolested so should be straight forward to restore
Whats the history?

Hey ”burtythepilot” :D

Where did you go? Did you ever finish the red coupe rebuild?

Anyway welcome back!

I’m looking forward to see how you get on with your dad’s old car 8)

Wow, people have great memories.

I did and still do have another profile, (I hate that word) Burtythepilot, on GTMDrivers, but I thought I would start a fresh, as that was a long time ago. I do have another red GTM on the rebuild, I'll be rebuilding them together.

I would have replied individually, if I knew how to. So be patient while I learn.

Andy, your GTM is looking great and how I would hope this one will be.

Mr Grizzler, it is unmolested, but very rotten. Behind the back of the doors is honesly mostly dust. We are talking serious rot and weakened chassis. But its been rebuilt before. Now has 146,000 miles on the clock. I dug out the history once and will find it again and copy and paste.

Mr Turbocox, yep this is my Dad's car. I'll post on my other one then as I've just picked back up the project. I've been abroad for 4 years.

As for now, we are just tearing it apart to get the tub blasted. The doors and windows are off or out, the fibre glass body has been taken off for the first time in 52 years but revealed some horrors. It wasn't that well built in the first place. Front subframe is off and working on the back. Gear linkages and engine plumbing slow that process down as do getting to the rear subframe bolts. :) There is a lot of work to put the tub right. Blasting it won't leave a lot...

Well its mostly apart and off to the sand blaster's. I don't expect there will be many usable panels, but its all flat sheet, so keep welding in till its all solid again. It looks like some of the panels were brazed or riveted in place before being welded.

Good progress so far. 8)

 Make sure to cut the rear plate out of the pontoon. Where the rear subframe mounting bolts go through they need to be reinforced, as they collapse when they are tightened up, over time they work loose.

The front of the Cox chassis (was made as a sub assembly separately) it was braised together, and the rear pontoons (also a sub assembly) was spot welded together. Then the main section was mig welded to the front and rear assemblies,.
