Post Wiper Motor
Anyone got any advice on a suitable wiper motor and mechanism for a coupe?
My current one is Ford of unknown parentage and has gone pop.

I was thinking about Citroen AX/C15 van - but any other pointers would be appreciated.

I used a Pacet rear wiper conversion motor on mine. It's completely self contained and has a self park built in. The only problem seems to be that it's a bit flimsy for the large arm and blade needed on a front screen.

You could try looking at rear wiper motors from most modern hatchbacks. They are mostly quite compact and all have self park mechanisms built in.

I got one from the single wiper AX. I've stripped it from it's nasty looking bracket and I'll be mounting it onto a pair of aluminium brackets. You get multi speeds and it goes fast enough to sweep the whole screen. One of my flea bay purchases!!

Mine's from a Mini. A standard front motor with a shortened bundy and just one wheel-box.

Here's the new install - Citroen AX with the nasty bracket - I don't think it looks too bad, though it is a bit big for what it does.

I removed the bracket and have made some ali ones. What is the sweep like? I can't tell until the screen goes in.

What arm did you use? Does it stay in contact with the screen at the edges, or come off a bit?

I used my original one as it fitted, but it's almost exactly the same as the AX one. It will need a bit of a bend to set it better against the glass.

I thought I would revive this topic rather than start something new on wipers. Just some simple questions.

1. Am I right in saying its the wheel box not the motor which decides the sweep angle?
2. Is the two speed contolled by the motor, the switch or some electics in between?
3. Self park is part of the motor mechanism/connections.

Just looking at sorting out what's currently only partially working on my Mk.1.

1. Yes. A regular thing is to rotate the nylon primary wheel thru 180deg so that it uses fresh part of gear.
2. Switch has 2 positions - motor has 2 control wires and an ignition switched live wire. (see below.)
3. Yes, but unless the motor is wired exactly right the self park makes the entire loom go doolally. IIRC to power the self park the motor has a permanent feed, the wiper switch creates the circuit thru the negative legs.

Holly thread revival

Right Something I have looked into and have started to gather the parts for, but not ready to test yet due to other issues to sort.

My Thoughts are for a Coupe.

I have a mini wiper, rack, wheel box setup currently, I need a new arm and I am struggling to find a suitable arm that fits my current setup all the universal ones I can find are parked/handed and too short.

I am replacing the wheel box with a tapered version
http://www.carbuildersolutions.com/uk/tapered-splined-shaft-windscreen-wiper-wheelbox

Then using a 2002 BMW compact rear wiper arm, Same length as my current arm!

Then a Bosch 15 or 16 inch blade.

All should fit nicely and gives a bolted on wiper, and uses the more modern style of hook wiper fixing.

The only concern is the spring is quite stiff on the arm so hopefully the wiper motor can drag the wiper across the screen ok. If the motor is ok dragging it I doubt the wiper will lift of the screen at speed!
