Post Donor MGF
Hello,

i am Gerardo from belgium.

A few weeks ago, i bought a Libra 1.8 VVC without engine.

long story short, the engine was taken out for repair in 2009 and never came back.

So, i will refurbish the full car, all metal parts out for anti corrosion treatment, repair, respray etc...

i have bought a 1999 MGF with the 1.8 VVC engine.
i will dismantle the car , keep required parts and the rest will go the the scrapyard.

So, what should i keep from the donor ?

Engine, gearbox, ECU,cable driven gearchange, ??

What else ?

Gerardo

Keep the drive shafts. As well as the ECU you'll need the 5AS security module and the associated plipper. Keep the engine wiring loom together with the various relays (big black box of relays) and the connection to the body loom as you may need to to splice it into whatever is left on the car. I found the various coolant hoses on the donor MGF useful - some may need to be cut down but handy as spares. The brake calipers front and back can be re-used on the Libra (and disks). The suspension uprights/hubs are similar to the metro ones so might be worth keeping. Also the wheels. Steering rack - standard MGF is 3.0 turns (TF is 2.7) whereas the Metro one is 3.6. The coolant expansion bottle cap (and maybe the whole tank - not the same but could be made to work).

Also, rather than scrapping, you may find you can sell a lot of the other MGF bits on ebay if they are any good.
