I'm looking for a K3, are there any problem areas I need to be aware of?

Anyone in Somerset area with a nice K3 that I could have a look at? Help me to benchmark ones for sale - though they seem thin on the ground right now

The areas to look at with the K3 are the handbrake, engine, roof and gear linkage.

The handbrake preferably from an MGF, not the additional handbrake from a 2CV.

Engine can be either the 1.4,1.6,1.8 or even the 1.8 VVC engines (All K series). So take your pick from 100bhp to over 160bhp.

The roof can be either soft top or hard top. The soft tops are rare and I'd recommend that you have a hard top as a minimum.

The gear linkage will be either rod or cable change. This will depend on the gearbox. The cable is the better of the two systems.

Beyond that, I'd say just look for a car that has been put together well.

I'm coming from a self built 7 (zetec enging not Kseries).
