 Speedo connection
As part of the pile of bits that I got to try and make a car I have a Coupe speedo cable (well actually a couple of them!)
I picked up a speedo the other week for the car. But I didn't try it until this weekend, only to find that the connection was the wrong size.
Did Smiths do more than one size drive for the speedos? As I have got a couple of cables I would prefer to try and get a gauge to match. The cable fitting I have is smaller than needed for the gauge, if that is of any help.
I thought that there was only on size, but it would seem that I was wrong!
Any pointers gratefully received.

 Re: Speedo connection
Can't help personally but if you contact speedy cables they would know and could advise. They make cables to suit whatever ends you need and will probably know by the numbers on the speedo.

 Re: Speedo connection
Off the top of my head there were a couple of different sizes of threaded connections on the back of the Smiths speedos and at least one clip type fitting.

 Re: Speedo connection
Cheers John,
I'll have to keep an eye out for another speedo then.
All I need to find out now is what speedos went on what cars!

 Re: Speedo connection
lyndiloo is right about Speedy Cables. I got my speedo and tach from ebay. They are both from a 6 cylinder Triumph. Speedy Cables reconditioned and re-calibrated them and made up a brand new speedo cable to the length I specified. Not cheap but incredible work. The instruments look brand new and the speedo is accurate to about 2%.
