Post Wheel width and offset.
What size wheels is everyone running ?

I was looking at a set of 7" wide wheel with a choice of 2mm or 22mm offset.
Rather than spend time trying out various one I wonder what people were running under the "standard" arches.

West,

How does the offset measurement work, i need a bit more clearence between the inner wall of the tyre and the coilover setup, how can I check what offset I have and what offset I need so I don't have to run a spacer, I'm only looking for about 5mm or so, I have about 10mm gap at the mo but with a bit of negitive camber and under corner pressure I belive it may rub.

If you have a Zero Offset wheel, i.e ET=0

the mounting face is spot bang in the middle of the wheel.

If you have ET+18, the mounting face is 18mm towards the outside of the rim., pulling the wheel inwards narrowing the track

If you have ET-10, the mounting is 10mm towards the inside of the rim, pushing the wheel outwards widening the track.

Now with everything suspension there are effects, and this has to do with scrub radius, the distance that the SAI/kingpin intersection is from the tyre center line. Also position of the wheel center effects your roll center heights as these are determined from the wheel center line.

You can very quickly move too far away from an ideal and get a very poor handling car that will get very nervous to drive.

........ and if you stray too far away from the standard offset you bu##er up the scrub radius and either loose all the feel from the steering or get massive kickback through the steering wheel.
