Do we know how many coupes there are in existance..? Or at least how many there are associated with this site...? And what about production numbers...?

I've always been told that around 500 Coupès were built.

about 50 Cox, 240 Heerey, 35 by GTM to the "facelift/13 inch wheels", then a further 175 ish.

Don't know of how many still exist.
We had this conversation the last time the Scottish members met.
Think we counted about 5 in Scotland; minitici , clubby, Axle, myself, and one in bits at McDonald Mini Edinburgh, and as far as I know the one in the Dundee area was written off and crushed.

And by the way I find your rebuild diary very helpful and entertaining. Not sure i'd get away with sticking engine parts in the dish washer mind...

I'm surprised at the number of 13" ers built by GTM, I'd have thought there'd be at least double that. What's the highest chassis number that we know of?

Off the top of my head I know of a 226A which is a 87 kit.


One of the kit car mags listed some rough numbers it was somewhere near 800 total I thought over the last 40 years.

I was told.
50>55 Cox.
70>80 Hereey's (I'm not sure on this, seems too many to me).
0 KMB Coupe's, 35 Early GTM 12" Coupe's.
500>520 GTM 13" Coupe's. (maybe a bit ambitious)

These figures are from different people involved with the project over the years, differing slightly depending on who you speak to.
I CAN'T SAY THESE ARE 100% CORRECT FIGURES.

I also remember a story about someone getting GTM (Paddy & Peter vintage) to vouch for the fact that over 700 Kits/cars had been manufactured during the entire life of the Cox/Coupe run, So that he could get his hillclimb Coupe into the modified production car class (mabe something smelly with that story but mabe there might be truth in it somewhere ).

Premo designs sold the last Chassis Tub two weeks before he passed away,(he had another but it was not built to the correct spec's), he (Peter Leslie) was under the impression that there were 700 KITS sold (not compleated cars).

I'm sure that this is a very difficult one to answer, as there are no complete records of the full Chassis run numbers from the, Cox right through to the last Coupe

Minor hijack, but has there been any further light shed on what has happened to the molds, jigs and rights to the Coupe/Cox

I've just had a look at mine and it says 286c July 1988. Interesting cos i'm sure on the log book it says 1986...

'86 will be probably be the reg of the mini that was used as a doner - back then you could usually keep the reg.
My Coupe is an '83 on a '70 "J" plate for instance.

It's on a Q plate...

DL is an unusual chassis code.. any more info on it or how complete it was when it left the factory (pack options etc.)?
