Height of bottom dash rail?
OK I forgot to measure it before I stripped the chassis! Does anyone know the height above the floorpan (or from anywhere really) of the bottom dash rail, or indeed the position of the steering column would be fine? Ta.

Re: Height of bottom dash rail?
I know it sounds a bit basic, but I don't even have any seats and although I could just guess a position it'd be nice to have even a vague figure if anyone's got a tape near their car?

Re: Height of bottom dash rail?
These are the dimensions I took from my Coupe chassis. It shows the position of the seat subframe mounting holes in the dropped section of the floorpan. The front of the car is at the top. The hole spacings will depend on the seats and the subframes used but this may give you an idea. As an alternative suggestion I have found the when correctly adjusted the backs of my seats are just touching the bulkhead at the top.

Just a thought Dino, if you're intending to have a full cage for competition then you can use the crosstube between the A posts as your bottom dash rail and steering column support as per racing mini's

Re: Height of bottom dash rail?
Hi John, Thanks for the drawing, that is actually useful although not really what I'm looking for ! I've mislead you by talking about seats.. What I meant was that because I don't have any seats yet, it's difficult to even sit in the chassis and work out a height for the bottom dash rail. Tim (the other Tim!) that's exactly what I want to do But because I'm trying to build the cage in before I finally fit the body it's all becoming a bit of a 'chicken and egg' thing!!

Re: Height of bottom dash rail?
Dino, I think that the holes for my dash haven't been filled yet on my tub. I'll mount mine in the car tonight and measure where it comes to. I can't guarantee that it is going to be an exact figure, as nothing on my car seems to be normal/standard! I'll let you know later. I found the seat thing useful too. But I'm a long way from fitting them!!!

Re: Height of bottom dash rail?
Well, I have measured with the dashboard roughly in place. It looks like it was in about the right position and the measurement from the bottom of the dash, to the floor is 14 1/2". The measurement from the top of the cut out for the steering wheel to the floor was about 17" Hope this all helps

Re: Height of bottom dash rail?
Thats excellent, thanks very much Know what you mean about nothing being normal Tim, I'm having fun trying to get the left and right sides to match, my chassis was not exactly what you'd call symmetrical

There was 1" difference on mine. The floor diagonals were a good way out too. Fortunately I wasn't using mine in the rebuild.

Re: Height of bottom dash rail?
I was amazed when I dropped the F/Glass on the tub at the weekend, that it fitted on really well. Even with all the hacking that it had had done, and with all the work I had done on it too.
