 Re: Engines
Iain, There was a guy on the old forum who had a coupe with a GM red top in it on Webers so it's do-able. How about the baby zetec (Yamaha) found in Fiestas and Pumas?

 Re: Engines
I'd suggest the zetec SE (Yamaha design) too - compact and lightweight. See here http://www.r1ot.com/ Regards Allen

 Re: Engines
for your information Lotus elises have been converted to Zetec power and the standard K series gearbox has been retained as the ford one is a bit bulky
Honda is a good choice to balance the car and can be supercharged to 350hp also an elise conversion
elises also use Audi 1.8 Ts
Vauxhall is the cheaper route though and cost does come into it.
easiest way to fit one would be contact Rob Hall at Allspeed he does frames for most engines for the mini scene quality item standard suspension points and track do need moding a little.

 Re: Engines
Your biggest problem with using things from the Mini Conversion scene are single bolt towers and most use an extended front which ends up meaning you end up with a longer wheel base and have to move arches etc. Just something to be aware off may not be the look your going for, Tony on here has an allspeed frame and has extended his wheelbase fitted with a 1.6 Vaux lump.
Off the top of my head I can only think of a couple converted Coupes I Know which are still the Correct Wheel base. Andy with the Vaux red top, A K series Coupe [was 1.4 last I heard] Possibly the straker Rally Coupe, and Mine. A couple still in build Phills 4Age being one, and a couple more that are longer wheelbase.

 Re: Engines
What about a SAAB 2.3 turbo engine cheap reliable fited to the unloved 9000 and 93 fits to the compact vauxhall F20 gearbox very cheap 350hp and no one has done it before its what i would have done if i had not gone the red top route.

 Re: Engines
MINE IS NO LONGER IN THE BUILD STAGE It worked for 3 secs approximately at Barkstone Heath, it is now being stripped down to a) swap a suspension donut, and b) rearrange pipework. (and c, and d, etc) That means it has been completed and is now being further modified - much in the same way as Neil's is in constant development

 Re: Engines
hello again ian, as i dont know your background i am assuming you are engineering or around that field, fit any engine you desire,my piont is the car did exactly what it was designed to do.my car was purchased in southampton and driven up to the dundee area, and im sorry you will never make a motorway cruiser from that, with what ever engine you put in it.but i wish you all the best in your challenge.and to add,any opinion was your request and in your mind a negative reponse my mind said a positive one,by the time you have done the conversion you could have built a gemini which is fit for the purpose you seem to require but hey ho im being negative again, and the company isnt that far from you.but again only my opinion, many thanks
