Post Bodywork fitting
I'm looking at getting close to properly fitting the bodywork on to the Coupe. Has anyone got a measurement for the bodywork on the front bulkhead? ie The distance between the bottom of the fibreglass and the bottom of the bulkhead.

I'm not sure if it one of those "every car is different" measurements, or if there is an optimum height at which it needs mounting.

Also any tips on which panel is aligned to which? Bonnet, Door, Back end?

Cheers :D

Read The Manual :!: :!: :!: :!:

To set the A pillar in the right place reaaly you need to fit the rear part of the tub, fit the doors, fit the front end then adjust the postion of the a pillar to achieve the right look/accepatable distance between the door frame and a pillar.

It really is a fit adjust adjust tweak make sure it looks right fix it, the front arches are off set differently on each side, it does mention a dimension for this in the manual, from memory about 33/4 of an inch

What West says.

You clamp the back end in place then fit the doors on packing pieces and adjust the fit of the front end to get parallel door gaps.

If it was easy everyone would be doing it.

On my Coupe the screen aperture was so big that I needed to use the double flanged screen rubber just to take up all the spare space.

Post Re: Bodywork fitting
Hi , on the subject of bodies and windscreens, and the fitting , are there 2 different size windscreens , say an early one and a later one? Dino's car chassis is the same as one i have and i measured from the sill top to the roof above where the door fits and my measurement for my old car was less than the later cars circa 1970 vs 1981 & 1982, it was not a huge amount and it was a few years ago so cant recall the amount but it was in the region of an inch im sure, im wondering if your having to use the wide rubbers (i have seen others on this forum with the same issues) because Dino's car which the heated screens are patterned on is an early one? (1970's)
The problem is the car i measured (older one) had been substantially modified so this could all be wrong, but both my later cars measured the same ? mmmm or is it another gtm mystery ?
Oh well still confused , does anyone know if they were all the same windscreen ? and if there were different roof heights for earlier cars ?
cheers simon

there are two different screens
the screen that fits to the early cars (Cox/Hereey) has a straight'er top edge to it (no longer available), compared to the later cars (Coupe's) which have more of a curve at the top edge

BUT most Coupes (that I've seen) have had screens fitted badly, in respect of the first builder cutting the hole too big first time

to my knowledge 1979/80 when the new moulds were made, as part of the updates by Peter and Paddy. This hasn't been checked with Paddy yet thow, so may not be correct.

Hi , i have spoken with Dino and the screen from his car is a mk2 as fitted to all but the first few made , so its not that !

Also , i thought the year paddy and pete updated the body was in 1982 when they went to 13" wheel capability, but it never made complete sense because of the obvious changes to the body/chassis compared to the earlier cars (on my 81 car), maybe there was 2 updates? When trying to find out info it does prove a little difficult !

Another point i think valid , with the distinct lack of anything concrete to do with these cars maybe now would be a good time to start a register and get the history sorted and straight ,i mean its over 40 years now ! i figure doing this will get harder as its left longer until there comes a point no one remembers ?
It would be interesting to know the exact number made and how many are left .......
and how many are road registered ?

My Cox has a late screen fitted at present, but I have located a early one but I haven't pay'd for it yet. I plan to retro fit the early screen and repair the hole that has been made larger. :D

I have a letter from Paddy and Peter dated 79 telling the interested buyer that they are the new owners of the project and that they are willing to offer their assistance if he still wishes to continue on with a purchase of a Coupe. :D I'll dig it out if you want to have a look see, I can scan it in and mail it over?

Belive me we are trying, Check the Cox on Ebay post
