Post Newbie GTM owner saying hi.
Hi all,
just thought i should introduce myself and say Hi.

I'm Scotty and i will be picking up my coupe in a couple of weeks, its sat in a garage for about 11-12 years doing nothing and now the owner has decided to sell it, it was first registered in 1970 so is tax ezempt :P and i think its an original Cox jobbie!
Its sporting an 850cc A-series which will almost certainly go in favour of something modern, i am aware of the views of some forum members on this subject but sorry guys, just want something newer under the lid! :D
I don't have too many details yet, or pics but as soon as i do i will post more info, its in lots of bits at the mo and requires a complete rebuild but i can't wait to get started, i will no doubt be regular poster over the next couple of years or however long it takes to get her back on the road.
cheers.
Scotty g

Do what You want, its Your car.

But PLEASE if only possible make only reversible alterations, and keep the original parts. A few years will come and I think You will prize Your decision.

Will post up pics and chassis number etc when i collect the car in a couple of weeks, i know its an early one as it was registered in 1970, she's in a fairly sorry state at the mo but you shall see that for yourselves when the pics go up.
I can't imagine any reason to want to go back to A-series once a newer engine is installed but i see your point Camelot, especially as its an early "historical" one however my argument in favour of a newer engine is as follows:-

This is a kit car, if i was to stay loyal to any originality i would have to put the classic A-series engine back into a classic mini surely as thats what it was taken from in the first place!??

Why was the A-series used in the first place back when the car was designed all those years ago? Because it was a cheap, plentyful choice, as the GTM marque has evolved over the years so has the donor choice evolved to better options (obviously thats always a matter of oppinion).

I just wanna! :D

Thanks muchly people will let you all know more as and when i know more!!
Scotty

Hey there Scotty, Welcome.

We're not that anal about engine swaps in here - it might be because you can't see the members only area that makes you think that.

BUT, if it is a Cox, then it is very old and relatively rare so yes, make any mods reversible.

I for one would like to see a Nissan CG13DE in the back of a coupe which should mean minimal mods. Check out the 16vminiclub for inspiration.

My Coupe (and West's for that matter) is registered as a '71, but the shell is an '86, so reg date doesn't necessarily mean it's a Cox. (Would be nice if it was tho.)

And, where are you x2? We're really nosey in here.

Phil

I'm in Folkestone in sunny Kent. Just about as SouthEast as you can get without venturing into Jonny Foreigner territory! :D :D
