You can see that the normally rough cast face has been machined flat - you take as little as possible off as you want the mounting lugs to be 12mm thick (I think) at the end of the process. As the man with the milling machine said they just want "licking" with the cutter. You can also see where the holes for mounting the calipers have been "pulled" a little to suit the centres of the MGF carriers - the one on the left looks like it's left a very thin bit but it isn't really. I also paid attention to the direction of the forces when the car is in actual use - when moving forwards the braking force will go clockwise on the right hub and anti-clockwise on the left so try to leave more metal on the side that the force is going to be pplied to (most of the mechanical attachment will in reality be through friction with the mating faces but.....).

Thats great thanks for that unfortunately they were already snipped like that when i picked the engine up but im sure they wont be expensive plenty of meat left on the pads too which is good :)

Sorry just to clarify because im a bit thick by uprights you means mini disk hubs? just browsing ebay now :)

Just won a pair of metro turbo 4 pot calipers and discs (vented) metro drive flanges and hoses for £80 :) just need a pair of disc hubs now

managed to get my hands on a pair of uprights for 80 quid plus vat so ive got pretty much everything i need now someone has offered me a remote servo for 50 quid should i bother fitting one?
