Jamie,
I'm not on facebook so do you have another link to the pictures?
I used to holiday in Saltburn as a nipper -- great pier, miniature railway in the park -- sorry Italian Gardens, palm trees (oh yes oop north!) and the 1in4 hill to the beach. Used to spend hours watching Morris Minors axle tramp round the hairpins -- sad or what?

Re: Saltburn hill climb
The missus reckons she can get to the photos from her facebook page -- she's much more connected/sociable than me.
How did I forget the funicular railway??? -- does it still run? -- there's one near here in Bridgenorth than I must give a try. Our holiday used to start with a train ride from Darlington to Saltburn in a multiple unit affair -- if you could sit up front you could see that the tracks wobbled in and out on the stretch past the ICI works -- standard gauge pah! What glamorous times.

Re: Saltburn hill climb
Finally got there on the wife's facebook. Looks like a brilliant day out. Jamie's Libra looks great and I particularly like that rather mean looking Imp. Saw a car very like that on the A49 near Ludlow last week. Also a Triton cafe racer -- my cousin had one in his youth with an enormous megaphone exhaust -- his wife used to know when to put the kettle on for his tea because she could hear him coming from about 5 miles away!
One thing puzzles me -- was this a competitive meeting or a "demonstration run" affair? -- the crowd at the cafe looks very close to the action.

Re: Saltburn hill climb
Yeah unfortunately it is just a demo day as some years ago some old local tw&t looked into road bylaws and reported to the authorities that roads could not be closed for racing purposes, the timed racing and the event was binned. Then after a trip down to Downing Street with a weighty pertition and on the back of "how come you can close roads for Lycra clad cyclists" (tour de Yorkshire etc) it was allowed to continue but only as a demonstration event, as yet! The motor club are still campaigning for the timed event. It was predominantly a motorcycle event where people came from Europe with their vintage bikes and camped the weekend. Shame Oh and that is a GT40 esk bug catcher, it really does push air upwards and deflects flies from the windscreen. Jamie
