Post Volunteering with you car in Nottingham
hello all,

My wife works for Headway the brain injuries charity in Nottingham. The overwhelming majority of their service users are men. And most of the head injuries are as a result of trauma (accidents, injuries to squaddies, RTAs etc)

They have a program of sessions with arts and crafts stuff, through to history and science(which my wife delivers) However a recent session on WW2 mentioned the VW beetle and this sparked a whole debate about the car industry with many of them professing a love for cars bikes etc.

it occurred to me that it might be good to take a handful of cars/bikes/kits, modified/classics anything interesting really over one day as a bit of a break from the usual arts and crafts stuff they do.

The tricky bit would be that it would need to be in the daytime. i'm lucky in that i can juggle my hours a bit and take the kit car over (when it has a new MOT) but I know its tricky for others, but I think it might be a really good thing to do with our cars for chaps who were just like us until the unthinkable happened to them.

The date has been set for the 14th of April, would any local GTMs be able to attend?

Paul

I would dearly like to help here, but I am semi retired, I still work 2 days per week and Tuesday is one of them. If for any reason you have to change the day I have a couple of cars I could bring.

i was hoping to run second session. Some of the service users only attend on one or two days per week so in order to make sure that as many users as psosible get a chance i was planning on running another one on a different day. so i'll keep you posted.

In the main I can make Weds, Thurs or Friday. If my mate can also make the day I can bring my 289 Cobra and the Radical. If he can't I will just bring one of them.

I have a commitment on 14 April, but would be up for coming along if there's another one on a day that I can make.

hello all,

sorry for the delay in updates. One of the service users passed away last week unexpectedly so all this sort of thing has been on hold.

Anyway. I've done a quick drive around and its worth having a look at the map here: http://binged.it/1Cwiivy

If you are coming from the south of Nottingham :

In a kit car, or anything slightly lower than normal its worth avoiding Wigman Road as it has five or six really horrible speed bumps. (i used to catch the exhaust on my standard MG260 quite badly on them) Aspley Road is a better bet.

If you are coming from the South or just via the M1 its a very easy five minute drive from junction 26 via the A610 and Woodhouse Way.

Best regards

paul
