Undergoing testing at the moment (i.e. waiting for the engineering dept loaning me the number/letter stamps)
Once I see its going to work, I'll update people with the details.

So far I have found out, on another test piece, not to attempt to clear lacquer them, as the ink isn't solvent proof.

The process is used on mugs etc, so should be quite o.k. when exposed to the under bonnet elements, as long as they don't suffer too much abrasion.

After some jig work

I managed to get one stamped up

The aluminium is quite thin, so getting a good impression isn't great.
I can see nothing in the MOT manual that says anything about it,
just it must be
Quote:
Permanently displayed, Consistent, Legible.

Did think of filling the letters with a sharpie and wiping it clean.

GBADY755 I wonder if the chassis is 755.

On the other plate I have the numbers seem to be original, with the letters added at the front by the builder.

I thought VIN numbers have to be 17 characters (post 1981) and were minimum 11 Characters pre 1981 Looks like you are all a few numbers short of a full VIN?

At my first "Electronic" MOT the tester, just typed in the 4 digits and the system accepted it.

It's also the number listed on the V5 / Log book, so DVLA must be happy with it.
