John could you measure the wire diameter of those for me? as i wont be looking for anything quiet as strong as 325, so hopefully i can optimise the space as its looking very close from this mornings measurements

Sure.

The wire diameter on the 380 lbs/" spring is 9.94 mm (just over 3/8").

Well after a little rearangement and playing about on the Jig/upright, and even thinking up a totally radical idea then reverting back I think i may have cracked it :!:

Got a potential spot for the coil over with 1.9 springs and acting direct on top of the hub :!: giving in theory a very close spring rate=wheel rate :D

West,

Have you got any pics of your design yet or is it still a "in the head design", if you do have pics I would like to see them to see if I can improve on my own efforts.

The design is a little of in head/scribbles in the scribble book, and drawn on CAD, as with alot of my frame so far, I even have done some fea on the bracketry to fine tune the designs a little. The top arm is custom and due to the lack of space in the engine bay I have had to come up with a cunning plan to get everything in its been a nightmare there are a couple of pictures in the members area that give a clue to how im doing the top arm.

back to the beer and a little light reading before I draw up the simplified suspension arcs to check the coilover postion/movement ideas

trying to keep options open on the coil over postion at the minute as got to consider that one day i will fit Drag slicks and they are a little wider than my road tires so need to keep some extra clearance in reserve

225 lbs 6" long 2.6" dia 8 coils 0.34"dia

Normally

thin wire = soft
thick wire = stiff

more coils = soft
less coils = stiff

bigger overall diameter = soft
smaller overall diameter = stiff

Thats how your springs seem to be working too.

With you specs just quickly ran it through the softwaretrickery it came up within +/- 15Lbs

So not too bad for the software i guess as it probaly a little idealistic

Been playing around with my Spring angle/postion on the CAD and the angle is giving a an almost linear movement with the wheel, Without resorting to rockers/etc you struggle to get away totally from falling rate but I have managed to get a motion of 75mm of bump @ wheel the shock is 72mm worse case not bad, just need to try a couple of tweeks to check tire clearance etc.
