I seem to have got a problem with my gauges on my Libra which are the separate GTM items.When I put the side lights on the fuel gauge and temp gauge move up on the scale,I have a diode fitted in the alternator charge light circuit as recomended when I had the common problem of the car not stopping without putting the handbrake on.
Any advise on resolving the problem would be gratefully recieved.

Seems that the way the GTM loom is made you can get a back feed from the alternator that feed the loom to keep the engine running once you turn the key off.Putting the handbrake on puts the back feed down to earth via the handbrake switch.The diode stops the back feed via the alternator light.I was told it is a common thing with the Libra although I have come across the same problem on my brotheres land rover.

Some fuel and temperature gauges (Smiths particularly) need to be powered from a voltage stabiliser to stop them reacting to voltage changes in the main system.

This is basically just a coil and a bi-metal strip which drops the voltage down to an average of 10v.

There are two terminals

B - battery (ignition live)
I - instruments (temp and fuel gauges)

You can get solid state replacements on ebay but I haven't tried them.
