Post GTM Libra spring rates
Looking at the spring rates on my Libra it is 1.8vvc with no anti roll bars I believe it is fitted with 450lbs 9inch long springs on the rear and 250lbs 8 inch fronts. Is the rear over sprung as searching on the site it looks like 300lbs 10 inch rears are recommended.
Thanks Matty

If you look in the Libra/Spyder section and find the post on Spring rates/lengths you will see the calculations that Bob Snooks and I did on his particular Libra.

Without looking back I think it's 300lb 8" 2.25" for the rear and 225lb 8" 2.25" front.

What does your Libra handle like Bob as I have the 250lbs front springs and will look into getting 300lbs 10 inch rears as your set up and have previously read the suspension set up details you have posted and thinking of setting mine up the same.

Hi Matty

I'm very happy with the set up/handling I have, it's the best it's ever been, but having anti-roll bars would be say 10% better [I've set up/driven an anti-roll bar Libra], but the cost/bother of fitting them puts me off having them.

When I can afford/get around to it, I'll get 300lb 8" rears, 225lb 8" fronts as suggested by Andy Robinson Racing [just to see if it improve's it].

Having 300lb 10" rears, 200lb 8"fronts I had trouble raising the front, putting 250lb on the front cured the problem, Andy said unequal spring lengths would be the cause of the trouble?
With 250lb on the front I think it's still over sprung [on the front] but it's so close I don't think it will make much difference changing them, so I'll continue to enjoy driving the car with confidence as it is for the time being.

Bob.

Hi Matty

Just undone my covers to check what I've got.
With ProTech shocks mine are set at 9 out of 13 on the rear and 1 out of 13 on the front.
But I don't remember leaving the front that low :?: so I've put it up to 3 :?:

I'ts all coming back to me now, last year when I changed a ball joint on the back I changed the tracking/set up to what I have now, I remember going out with the shocks all set at 1 of 13 and kept up'ing thr rears untill the car was stable, I don't remember touching the fronts, hence still set at 1. Took the car out this afternoon with the fronts set at 3, didn't feel it made much differance, maybe a little better, so set it at 5 and took it out again. Ugh it's too hard for the roads around here, I thought it was going to break my teeth or something else :?:

Don't forget it's not only the spring/damper settings that affect the handling, your tracking is most important, tyre pressures also.

Bob.

Can anyone recommend the best place (cheapest!) to get springs from. I have AVO shocks fitted - do i need to give them a ring or are there other places ( better or cheaper).

Hi Sven
Try Faulkner Springs from Merlin MotorSport. They could possibly do the job for you
What is the issue with your springs are the rears to hard ?

Got mine here http://www.springcoil.co.uk/suspension.html as they are local to me.

I had terrible trouble with springs from AVO bowing, think I tried two or three sets - ended up returning the lot and going to the above.

Thanks for the suggestions.
I've only just bought the car. The previous owner had just had the rear AVO shocks re-built & put new springs on. I think he'd had problems with the longer springs bowing & causing a knocking noise. So he'd put shorter ones on, but i'm not sure how short! I need to whip them off & measure them really. On the car they measure about 6" ( when compressed by the cars weight & at the correct ride height) but thats with the adjuster screwed just about to the maximum. It looks as if theres not too much room before the spring is fully compressed.
Maybe this is OK but i've nothing to compere it to.
I'll try to post a photo later on.
