My MK2 Rossa doesn't want to start

I am having trouble with the coil end of the ignition system. I have in my engine bay the following:

1: a lead from the distributor
2: a female spade connector - white cable
3. a female spade connector - white with black tracer
4. a female spade connector - 2x white with black tracer

What goes on which terminal and what isnt used at all.

I am running points and the wiring loom is standard Rossa.

I want to rip it all out and make my own system with a MK2 metro fusebox and relays etc, but want to know what condition the engine is in before i start.

Any ideas/help welcome please.

It may be some use to you.

Just to check - is it A series or A+?

If A plus threis a ignition module on the side of the dizzy and the wiring is slightly different.

Hi, cheers for the replies. the diagram helps me with which side of the coil needs connecting to what, but which of the above mentioned wires to i use?

It dosent have a module on the dizzy i dont think.

According to the build manual, the purpose made loom follows metro colour coding - sadly I have a mini manual, not a metro - but a trawl of your local charity shops may help.
My instalation has been modified for an A+ engine, which has the module with two wires, one to each side of the coil.

i have both mini and metro manuals from various years, and none of them match the rossas'm wiring.

there is a convention for looms


anything with a black tracer is a switched earth.

so your white wire should be power 12V, should be easy enough to check with a multimeter. The white with black trace would be earths such as from the points in the dizzy to the coil, and from the coil to the tacho.
